Agreed. To get YouView news, you have to check Online Entertainment Services AND BT VIsion AND Terrestrial/Freeview AND Freeview+/Humax.
It's a bit of a mess. |

The forums need a bit of a shake up - I wonder if most of the Freeview PVR sub forums could be merged. Then add new sub forums (?fora) for YouView and FreeTime. The BT Vision forum could maybe devoted purely to the Vision+ boxes?

I'd welcome a separate YouView section.

But where do you put it? it is not part of the Freeview platform with some catch up services added. It is not online entertainment with some broadcast channels added. It comes in at least three flavours (retail, BT and TalkTalk) and currently two different manufacturer's devices (Humax and Huawei).
Wherever it gets put many people will look in one of the existing sub-forums which they think seems more appropriate for their particular issue and start topics there. The only way to minimise that risk is to have it as a top level forum in the Digital Entertainment Services section. |

Of course the biggest current Youview related issue is the imminent launch of BT Sport. But that has spin-offs on other platforms too. So where would be best to have the main discussion topic for that?
TBH I am surpised there is no BT sub-forum in the Broadband Internet alongside Sky and Virgin. I can understand Virgin having its own forum but why Sky and not others? |

Why not just stick it alongside the dedicated one for BT Vision?

Something that really annoys me is the YouView interface for the BBC iPlayer. I hate the way in which it automatically populates the top line before you've actually pressed a button. I always go straight to Categories and then when the categories pop up, I can never resist moving sideways instead of upwards, so that it takes you onto something completely different.
Perhaps a bit difficult to explain in words, but even after using it for a couple of weeks now, I still tend to do it. |

Someone mentioned nearly half a million subscribers, well the largest broadband company BT has 6 million subscribers and doesn't have its own broadband forum - while two smaller ones (Sky and Virgin Media) both do have dedicated broadband forums. Where's the logic in that? Similarly, BT TV is tucked away as a sub-forum with an out-of-date name (BT Vision is only part of it) and is far from an "Online Entertainment Service" - it's a fully fledged TV service now and along with Talk Talk, accounts for the largest number of Youview boxes out there. Most of the BT TV discussion now takes place in Broadcasting in the guise of BT Sport! The entire section (Digital Entertainment Services) needs a re-vamp as it's become a right old mess as it is. Where exactly Youview would fit in though, I'm not sure. Perhaps the root of the problem is the top level division between Broadband, Cable, Satellite, Terrestrial and Online Entertainment? There is so much overlap these days that a complete re-think is needed here, I think. The Cable section effectively contains only ONE operator - Virgin Media (Smallworld Cable forum contains NO posts in the last month). Why is it called Digital Entertainment Services anyway? Is there any non-digital entertainment service still going? Time for DS to make some comment on all of this, methinks. |

Hi all, We've taken your feedback on board and agree it is time to look at how the Digital Entertainment Services forums are organised and have proposed the following changes. It would be extremely helpful to us to hear your thoughts on this before we made changes. Quote:

I think that still misses the link between Terrestrial and Online Entertainment that makes Youview a hybrid service. Perhaps a sticky in the Online Entertainment section directing people to use the Terrestrial (Freeview, Youview, TUTV etc) section?

Think Top Up TV might not be around much longer, Will wait and see what happens. But no one uses that service these days anyways.
