My wife took our Staffie to the vet yesterday to investigate a small lump that had appeared quickly, over the matter of a few days, on his side.

On getting home, my wife said she'd booked the dog in for an operation today as the vet thought the situation to be serious. This really freaked me out and caused my anxiety levels to go through the roof.

The vet has just rung to say that the lump removal had gone well and there would be no need to have it tested. He said this because the lump had floated in water and was therefore just fatty in nature.

I must say that I'd never heard of this floating test before but I'm sure the vet must know what he's talking about.

Sounds like a fat lump, especially with the speed it grew. Is she a little over weight?

Don't worry, they are common and it maybe that she'll get some more, as long as they are 'loose' under the skin they are generally ok, but if any new ones show up check with the vet.

Ive had fatty lumps in all of my collies, none of them overweight. Ive never had these in my Schnauzers so don't know if its just more common in bigger dogs. But nothing to worry about and glad hes doing ok

See, I don't hate all Staffies

Pleased to say my dog's recovering well after the little op.

He's a very lean and fit 7 year old dog who I try to keep as active as possible. Many people are surprised he's as old as he is as he looks to be much younger.

He's had a lump removed before and that proved to be benign as well. I think that some dogs are just prone to getting them.

I've had staffs on two occasions before and the first one would try to attack any other dog passing by. The second was much less aggressive while my present dog just loves to play with others and is never inclined to fight.
