I've seen this gadget on"ideal world"shopping channel. It resembles a blender. what you do is put frozen fruit into it and what comes out resembles ice cream. They were doing it with all sorts of fruit but bananas seemed to be the bases of their "ice cream"making. They tended to mix a load of different fruits;and I've got to say it looked convincing, the texture looked like I've cream. I've been shoveling down quiet a bit of ice cream of late;so it would be good to have something that isn't so unhealthy.

I don't have one, but have seen the infomercials and was intrigued enough to have a look at online reviews, which seem mainly positive. These two accurately summarise what the consensus seems to be:

Very tempting! I'd love to have a go with one, but not sure I could justify sparing the space in my already gadget-filled kitchen, when you can achieve a similar result with a blender (not as creamy though, I'm sure, but still...).

Banana ice-cream is a fav in this household. Put a frozen banana into a blender and it goes through an amazing transformation into an ice-cream like substance. I've made this many times.

From the wired review:
"But while it resembles a blender in appearance, what comes out of the chute is simply not possible with a blender. Seriously, try putting a frozen banana in your blender — it will spin around pointlessly, and if you’re lucky, it will get chopped up into a rough mush. Either way, the texture will be nothing like what comes out of the Yonanas."

^^ Tosh. So on that basis alone.... I'm out.

It's a fab infomercial. Had me hooked. Can't justify the cost of one but looks an interesting concept.

I put coconut milk into a blender and a couple of handfuls of frozen fruit, a drop of vanilla and blitz it and its a lovely soft ice cream to get it firmer just put into the freezer for half hour

If you peel a Banana, wrap it in foil and then freeze it you get something similar.

Likewise,I have too many gadgets. And they end up not being used.

I would spend the money if I could be sure that it worked.

Interesting,I may try this.

But does that work with other fruits?

It's the banana that gives the ice-creamy consistency, then you just add whatever other fruit you fancy. But you do need the banana, I think. If you've got a blender, have a go at it!

I pop frozen berries, some yoghurt or cream and a squeeze of honey or a tblspn of icing sugar in the blender and get great frozen yoghurt or icecream in less than two minutes. Nonanas!
