Ok the Wii u was released last year and one of the launch games was a 2d Mario. Seriously for a next gen consol they make a video game that you would've expected in the 80's. I like 2d Mario games but keep them for the DS and let the Wii u have 3d games.

The idea that new consoles cannot have 2D games is absurd!!!

Platform games will always be popular, I don't think that's the main cause of Nintendo's problems.

I think the main factor is that they have delivered nothing fresh. Their last few main console launches have just been refreshes of old devices....(Wii U, Wii Mini, 3DS, 3DSXL, DSiXL). That line-up has become incredibly stale, there is nothing new or exciting and that's the problem.

Sony and Microsoft stuck to just one or two revisions of existing models and that has worked out far better for them. They've also managed to keep it fresh with high profile gaming releases which keep people buying. And their latest consoles are all new have do have some strong points over their predecessors. There isn't really much between a DSi and a 3DS and Nintendo has no massively successful exclusive besides Mario. Zelda etc have dried up.

Nintendo hasn't really been taken seriously since the Wii with more seasoned gamers, their market since the Wii has been reduced to families, kids and a few casual buyers. There is no loyal fanbase where there used to be for them.

They've also done high profile Donkey Kong and Kirby games in 2D recently.

That's another thing people have wanted a 3d DK game since Donkey Kong 64 and a 3d Kirby game has been wanted by fans aswell so why mae them in 2d?
2d games are nice for nostalgia but Nintendo are going too far with them. It's 2013 not 1993.

I'm confused

Do you have problem with nintendo making 2D or so you have a problem with 2D games in general?

There have been some really good 2D (/2.5D) games in recent times, Sonic 4 part 1 and 2 and rayman origins to name a few

They keep doing 2d plat-formers because there popular & continue to sell well, The day they don't will be the day they stop making them.

I thought New Super Mario on the Wii was one of the best games on the Wii & one of only a few I actually still go back & play. If I had a Wii U I'd probably love the new one.

With regards to 3D Mario, Hated all of them & the same is true for the 3D sonic games, I think there all crap, Much prefer them in 2D.

As to keeping 2D Mario on the DS, I don't own or want to own a DS, Much prefer my gaming on a big screen TV so I want them to keep pumping out these sort of games for the consoles so that I can keep playing them

There's a PS3 game coming soon called Dragon's Crown, which looks more 2D than 3.
Hoping its going to be a fancy looking golden axe type game with a bit of RPG.
If it is,I'll get it.

2D platformers >>>>>> 3D platformers.
It is known.
And if you think you could have played the same in the 80s I encourage you to revisit some old games. The new ones are a lot better looking and play a lot smoother.

I'm bored of Nintendo just rehashing old games like super Mario and Mario kart. I'm not bothered by 2D or 3D but just bored of super Mario 15. They don't seem to bring new games out. That's why I don't buy Nintendo home consoles.

Saying all this I do have a 3DS pretty much purely for pokemon but I can't get enough of that lol

All consoles feature the rehash of the same games over and over again.

Call of Duty, Fifa, Need For Speed etc.

I'm a huge Mario fan and long may Nintendo continue to bring out Mario Bros and Mario Kart games, if anything I wish they'd release more.

No certainly not the 2d Sonic games were the highlight of my childhood and I still play them. But the 3d Marios completely annihilated the 2d ones. Look at Mario 64 it's one of the greatest video games of all time so they should focus on making more 3d Mario games.

A Nintendo console just would be the same without a sideways scrolling Mario game.

I prefer playing New Super Mario Bros to Mario Galaxy.
