Freezing Cold Supermarkets
I know most supermarkets keep the places cool in the summer but i have just been to a local M&S food store and it was flippin freezing. I am not a fan of really hot weather but this store today really was ridiculously cold and i heard 2 other couples moan about it. I don't understand why they have to have it that cold, i can honestly say i cut my shop short to get out.
Bought a nice pizza and a large bag of Roast Beef & Onion crisps for tonight like .

I was roasting hot on Friday so nipped into Marks on my way home.
I didn't want anything in particular, just wanted to luxuriate in the freezing cold aisles. I noticed several other people loitering in there as well! |

Asda is just the same - got out of there quick yesterday, we were joking we were going to go in there in sheepskin coat next time. Goodness knows how the staff stand it for a shift, the girl on the check-out told us she was cold all the time.

In this weather it's sooooo nice walking in out of the heat into the supermarket chilled section. I look longingly at the bottom shelf as I wish I could just strip off and climb in there and go to sleep

Our nearest M&S food store is kept ridiculously cold. The checkout staff are literally dressed for a very cold winter day all year round and are still rubbing their hands to keep warm between serving customers.

Good idea if you ask me. Keeps the food fresher for longer.

That would be perfect. Would mean I don't have to go around opening the freezers and sticking my face in for 30 seconds.

Stores are usually kept the same temperature all year round - same as shopping centres. A uniform comfortable temperature in winter or summer is more likely psychologically to make you stay longer and do more shopping and thus spend more.
It's also why most shopping centres go to great lengths to ensure their flooring is absolutely smooth and no loose tiles - so that you don't need to look down at where you're going, you can look at all the lovely merchandise instead. It probably just feels really cold because of the temperature differential between the summer temperatures and the ambient temperature inside the shop. |
