We are so called 'civilised man'.....though still killing one another in mindless wars using sophisticated technology, even as i type this in 2013

Anyway.... Where is the world heading ? It seems while advances in technology and medicine are made all the time that in some ways the worlds not working as it should with the profit motive for everything ruining what could be a bettter world for all. We in the u.k and the west are lucky compared to many countries too.

Still a billion people in this world without clean drinking water apparently.

What is the likely future of the world, 50 years down the line, is it going to get better or worse ??

I think there is going to be great warfare the likes of which the world has not seen before.

Now this is not the beginning It is not even the beginning of the beginning. but it is, perhaps, the beginning of the end.

Honestly, I think we have a one way ticket to our own destruction. I don't think it's a matter of if but when. I think our world is deeply unstable and fundamentally corrupt.

Well the earth is going to burn out in the future due to the expansion of the sun so mankind will just keep embroiled in religious conflict, wars, poverty until it ends with singers writing songs dreaming of a peaceful world.

If an Alien landed in your garden he would upload all knowledge from the HDMI port on your laptop, and then - after a few minutes - say this:

"Let's see if I have got this right............ Just a short plane ride away there is a tiny child who is about to die in his mothers arms, but we can't take just take a flight there and give the kid some food because your money has to be kept for an "essential" upgrade to iphone 6? (WTF?)
Is that correct? "

(sighs and moves slowly back to his airship as his alien tears drop onto the grass.......)

I think you are right.
I suppose I was thinking Download All Knowledge first and then Upload All Knowledge.
I am absolutely gutted....

I know what your trying to say, and agree with your principle.

It's crazy how in one part of the world, hundreds and hundreds of millions are having obesity problems, where as another part of the planet a bigger number of people are starving to death, what a strange Race we are, a beautiful world ruled by an unhealthy Race.

I agree, Resources are running low and even though research of replacements are underway war will be influenced by the people who currently hold the cards and make the money from our dependance on those resources.

Poverty and religion will also come into play as always, The growth of the population is also out of control so wars are inevitable.

I don't see any other future either. If one thing is certain, it is war. And the next big one is going to make the first two world wars look like minor scuffles.

The world economy is going to collapse sooner rather than later imo. Then the fun will begin.

Whether the next war will be the great apocalypse remains to be seen.

Bring it on, I say.

Depends on what scale it is, The prospect of a Nuclear war is terrifying. You'd like to think amongst the many Nut Job leaders out there that they'd atleast know not to go down the nuclear route knowing full well it's only going to mean pure devastion for everyone, themselves included.

Wishful thinking though

It's going to take more than money and food to sort out millions of starving people in countries like Africa. There's other things going on in these countries such as corrupt governments, a lack of water ( essential for the growth of food crops ) and a lack of birth control.

I agree with the OP's sentiment though.

I don't think very many people are actually starving to death.

It has to go backwards.
Their isn't enough food or resources in the world for 6 billion people to live the life we have become accustomed to.
The countries of the devolping world are using up more resources as their lifestyles become better, we in the west will see our lifestyles drop and meet the upcoming countries somewhere in the middle.
As of today only the poor in our country are affected by inflationary prohibitive prices for energy and food.
But as prices rise more and more people will be affected and the divide between rich and poor will increase.
Only self sufficient counties with low population densities will be uneffected and we are neither.

You see i think there is enough food in the world, and theres certainly enough land to grow all the food anyone needs. Its the deeply flawed economic system of the world thats the problem. The global system of doing things is all messed up and needs overhauling.

Where we measure 'progress' by what the latest 'i phone' can do etc etc.. then then we are on the wrong path thats for sure.
