[ Hudson's Bay is in The Orkneys, FFS !!! ]
![]() Quite enjoyed it this week, some interesting stuff that two of her ancestors were involved with. |

Interesting although she seemed to have forgotten in Canada that if John Malcolm had died she wouldn't have existed
![]() The programme seems to have evolved now into plunging straight into just one or two ancestors it deems 'interesting' now - no mucking about finding gramps then his dad and his dad and then the diving chappie - just commission that lass to do a parchment, much simpler! |

Still, we should be grateful, an hours worth of Sarah and she never mentioned her fanny once.

I really enjoyed this episode as I grew up not far from Holy island. I thought Northumberland looked stunning.
As soon as they said he was a diver I knew that's how they ended up in my neck of the woods. |

A very enjoyable episode, the stories were interesting, i liked Sarah anyway but she came across as very nice and lovely.
I wouldve liked to have found out what happened to the other guys when John Malcolm was lost, |

I truly expected not to enjoy this episode because of my prior dislike for Sarah. Not only did I find it interesting because my own father was a diver in his younger days, but the very fact that I saw Ms Millican in a totally new light. Gone was the high pitched and annoying voice with which she delivers her vulgar comedy, enter an intelligent, sincere and polite lady who could soften the hardest of hearts. I don't believe that her emotional moments were staged, I believe that they were genuine and, what's more, I think that it even surprised Sarah, herself, that she could feel so connected to her ancestors. If nothing else, this episode gained Sarah Millican a new fan. |

It never bothers me if I don't particularly like the comedy/acting/presenting of the individual who happens to be the person whose family has been researched as it's their ancestors who are the 'stars' of the programme. I am not a fan of Sarah Millican's comedy and would never watch one of her shows but there's no reason she couldn't have had ancestors with interesting stories to be told and as it turned out she had two such ancestors.
I don't understand why people think that the celebrities fake tears. Firstly I can't think why they'd feel they needed to, secondly I know from my own family research that you can feel a real empathy for some of your ancestors and thirdly when you hold old documents relating to death, particularly tragedies you feel a emotional connection that you may not get viewing the documents on television. As someone else mentioned Sarah got so wrapped up in the story of John Malcolm that she genuinely seemed to think he might have died in Canada which would have been unlikely of course. It got me thinking had I missed reference to him having a child before he went. All in all another enjoyable hour. Pity there's only two more to go in this series. |

Not necessarily true, it's possible that he'd fathered a child before he went to Canada.

that is exactly what Sarah has tweeted this morning, she was unsure whether he had left a family behind when he went to Canada

Interesting episode. I was wondering how her ancestor managed to get from Whitstable to South Shields. As a salvage diver following shipwrecks off the UK coastline, answered my question.
I was surprised that she had never heard of the Hudson's Bay Company and when told appeared to have no idea where Hudson Bay itself was. |

Did we find out what he did for a living back home? |

Given the number of extra marital affairs and children out of wedlock we've had throughout the various series, it wouldn't have been a break in form, for him to have had children back home and to have kept it quiet.
Did we find out what he did for a living back home? |

I am surprised she was not shown being taken into the museum in Stromness because I am sure they have quite a few Hudson Bay Company exhibits there.

There is yet another programme about the Referendum on in Scotland so we have to wait until after the 10 o'clock news. Only another 364 days of this but I suppose there will then be endless analysis afterwards.

I'm finding this quite boring - move on from her mother, we know all about that period. How can Marianne feign ignorance?

I would have thought Sacher-Masoch was not a common surname. Is that even going to be mentioned? Nothing ordinary about her ancestry.
