Just watching this, and she comes across as really awful. She seemed to think that him being a drunken lout was hilarious, forgery was something trivial - £49 was a lot of money in those days - and everyone who transported him was horrible and she hoped they had horrible deaths. Nasty woman.

I got the impression she didn't give a damn what anybody thought of her views.
She interrupted the experts, laughed at inappropriate times, and wished horrible deaths upon people. I was surprised they flew her to Tasmania - but upon reflection it was probably a free flight to spend some time with her Niece after the filming was over. I enjoyed the show despite Anne Reid. |

John Reid - untrustworthy, heavy drinker, got into lots of trouble, left a school unattended, forged signatures (including that of his father in law) for a large sum of money.
Mr Husband - also Anne's ancestor - seems reliable, we don't hear anything bad about him, takes in his grandchildren, sees his daughter married to someone very unreliable who then betrays him by forging his signature. Anne seems to like John and wish a nasty death on Mr Husband😳😳😳😳😳😳 I don't like her character in Last Tango much but she doesn't come across any better in real life! |

Actually I dozed off in the last part of the programme, but am not unduly concerned about what i seem to have missed. Tasmania looks nice, though |

I am a fan of Anne and loved watching her in the various dramas she's been in.
But I only lasted about 10 mins. I got bored! Still got it on my planner so I guess I could always watch it at a later date. Most disappointing. |

I'm also a big fan of Anne and was looking forward to this, but also found it a bit boring. It didn't really bother me that she was so anti John Reid's father in law, that was just her feelings about it and I can understand that. I have an ancestor who committed suicide along with her 2 sons, looked like people were very critical but looking into the full story she was driven to it.

Gosh. Amazing what you find out about your family when you look into it, isn't it?
Yes it is, I'm sure most people would have much more interesting history than most of the celebs! |

The Anne Reid epi was the rare combination of weird and boring.

I can never fathom how people on this show get so either defensive, angry or emotional about people they've never met, just because they're blood relatives.
Like even if my GGG grandfather was a murderer that wouldn't really affect me the way the celebs all seem to get so involved in it, as though its current. |

Quite agree. She came across as not too bright and a bit nasty. I'm sure a lot of viewers were 'put off' her.
Must admit that this series has led me to realise that this show has had its day, Anne Reid simply put was disgusting in protecting an alcoholic thug who abused his position and I turned off before the end. |

This weeks was the only ever episode I have not watched all the way through. I have no idea who she is, but she seemed rude and disrespectful. I turned off after just 10 minutes.

Do you mean people wouldn't like her in Last Tango in Halifax or in ' Who Do you think you are ? '
She seemed to think it was funny that her ancestor was a drunkard & a fraudster . When she said she hoped the people who passed sentence on her GG Grandfather died horrible deaths, I was really shocked ! What a horrible thing to say, & what about his wife & children he left behind & the people he defrauded ? ! Quote:
Yes I do wonder what her opinion of John Reid would've been had his wife been her direct ancestor.
A drunken ne'er do well who did'nt provide for his family and who was constantly bailed out by his father in law. The forgery was probably the straw that broke the camel's back as far as said father in law was concerned. Pity she couldn't or wouldn't see the bigger picture. |

Not WDYTYA but for anybody interested in such things I would strongly recommend watching Jamie Baulch - Looking for my birth mum that was broadcast on BBC Wales last night and available on iplayer. Riveting watch but a box of tissues will come in handy.[/quote]
I've just watched this on You Tube - very good. What a lovely man. |

Any sign of any more series of Coming Home? I can never understand why they do not repeat them outside Wales, I prefer the format mainly because there is no pretence that the person is doing the research themself. |

The false protracted laughing was cringeworthy.
I agree, she was too defensive of someone long ago who she'd never met to be natural and normal behavior ![]() I must admit I was taken aback both at what she said and the fact that it was kept in! |

I'm so glad it wasn't just me with this episode. I've never seen a celeb with such a bizarre lack of perspective. Why on earth would she assume that the entire community were wrong, and her ancestor was some kind of rebellious hero? Let alone the way she wished a terrible death on everyone involved in his conviction! Appalling.

I didn't get to see this one but everyone's posts have made me want to watch it so I'll go and have a look.
As far as the poster who said that he/she doesn't understand how people become involved with their ancestors, I would say that once you start uncovering events and stories, it's quite impossible not to. I've done a fair bit of genealogy with other people and I've never met anyone who remained indifferent to their ancestors. |

I'd literally never heard of her. Not sure she had enough insight to be really up to it.

Her reactions were somewhat strange especially at the start when she couldn't seem to stop laughing. The poor genealogist woman looked very disconcerted.
All very actressy I thought as if she were getting into a part. Regarding the ancestor as some sort of anti-hero was also strange when it looked as if he was clearly guilty. I got the feeling that the father-in-law who she made into the villain of the piece was clearly totally exasperated by the time he gave testimony against his son-in-law. The grandson was lucky that his grandparents brought him up - research I've done has seen several children abandoned by grandparents who either couldn't be bothered with them or thought they might go the same way as their wayward parent. It was a good story though. Forgot to add - it also struck me that there was a lot more to that story than met the eye and I also wondered if the forged bill was a way of getting rid of John Reid who was an utter menace and had caused nothing but embarrassment and irritation all round with his wayward antics. |
