Nigels grandfather wanted to reprieve Ruth Ellis but this was not agreed and she was hanged. Apparently he used to send money annually to her son.
Just a bit of trivia |

![]() They didn't show Michael Parkinson's for that very reason. Too boring! |

I am quite enjoying it partially because it is about "ordinary" people, the sort of people in my ancestral family.

Wikipedia tells you all you need to know about Havers. A rather unpleasant individual by some accounts, something I found reflected in his attitude throughout the programme.

I did feel he was only doing this show for the exposure and didn't really give a toss about his relations.

I really enjoyed it, largely due to Nigel's reactions to the descriptions and funny names. I laughed out loud lots of times and I thought Nigel came across really well ( but I like him anyway so maybe I'm biased

I remember how he left the jungle on Im a celeb. He more or less said himself that he was too posh to be in it
![]() He seemed ok tonight, found the first part a bit tedious, sometimes I just want them to get on with it instead of everyone repeating what someone has just said

)http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...wifes-son.html The part where the strategically placed leaves were swept off the gravestone was particularly contrived, which is saying something in a programme as riddled with contrivance as WDYTYA. "Nigel then looked on the internet" = "Nigel is handed the laptop and told which buttons to press". Not seen the show for many years but happened to catch it tonight and thought it was complete and utter tripe. |

If they'd thought it was too boring they wouldn't have showed the programme!

I don't think they ever actually made a programme featuring Michael Parkinson. As I remember it, they researched his family, didn't find anything particularly interesting, and decided against going into production.

What exactly do you like about him? The fact he cheated on his wife or that he took his new wife's kids to court to get a share of their estate when their mum died? Nigel silver-spoon-in-his-gob Havers whose grandfather had a knighthood, whose father is a former Lord Chancellor and whose aunt is a baroness.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...wifes-son.html And if Havers chose not to live at the property, the sons would not have been able to sell the property until he died? It is stated the property had already been sold, the boys probably financially benefitted from the sale far more than Havers, looks like they agreed to pay the equivalent living there rent-free. The report states the sons got £235,000 and the will decreed the sons would inherit the rest of the estate at 25. At the end of the article it clearly states..... When Mr Havers dies, they (the sons) will also inherit any properties bought with the proceeds of the sale of the Barnes house. By the way where does it say Havers cheated on his wife? Quote:
During Polly's illness, Mr Havers turned down film offers to be with her, but eyebrows were raised when he was spotted with his current girlfriend, 57-year-old multi-millionaire divorcee Georgiana Bronfman, just six weeks after his wife's death.

You're right, they didn't make a prog about Parky. I thought tonight's episode was really boring, it seemed to me that the producer had decided to try and show that NH wasn't as posh as he appears to be, and just concentrate on his working class ancestors. It would have been much more interesting to have focused on his father's side of the family, at least they got somewhere in life.
His father and paternal grandfather are probably well documented in reference works so little to learn there. In the early series they were apparently told to not show graves but like him, if I went to a distant part of the country researching my family I would want to see if I could find their graves. |

At the end he said his gt grandmother had a tough ordinary life. She was the daughter of a millionaire businessman ,o.k so she worked in her fathers pub, but she married a wealthy businessman.

The wife of David Couch (the miller who died) became a postmistress in Hertfordshire, eventually living with her daughter Georgina in Croydon.

Was it just me wondering why they kept pronouncing the surname Couch as Cooch - was it a regional pronunciation thing or are you meant to pronounce it like that and I'm just a bit (lot
) ignorant
