We all must have at least one favourite band/artist who are partners just cant stand, my missus pulls her face whenever I play Johnny Cash. She thinks he is morose and depressing, where as I find him quite uplifting.

Who do you argue about?

We don't argue but my husband doesn't like Metal or Punk. He's a 'Dad Rock' guy.

He does occasionally tell me to turn my noisy stuff down.

We both share a great love of a huge array of music: much soul, funk, reggae, African and Brazilian sounds.

'Can't stand' is quite a strong expression and she is quite diplomatic but I don't think she really relates to the punk and noisier stuff I would occasionally listen too and is not keen on some of the hip hop I have.

it may sound strong, but when some rolls there eyes and says 'not f*cking that again' when I put it on,I think it has some justification

My partner bloody loves Band of Horses who I really dislike. I really love The Streets who she really dislikes.

We're pretty lucky inthat we like a lot of the same stuff. Interestingly, we were both at a Pig Destroyer gig about 9/10 years ago, long before we were together.

A few decades ago, parents would get annoyed at their children's music because it was too raucous, noisy and violent.

These days, parent's can't stand their children's music because it is so irredeemably bland.

Lana Del Rey. I can listen to Born to Die on loop for hours while cleaning but once he comes in he either disappears to another room or puts earphones in. Hes not normally rude but he hates her just about as much as I love her which really is an insane amount.

That's the problem with Lana, you really do lover her or hate her. There's no middle ground...

Yes, my younger daughter has been known to yell at me to turn my music down

Thankfully, me and my partner have quite similar tastes, and we actually discovered a lot of artists through each other when we got together. We both love alternative/folk-y stuff and music with retro influences. We also both love film music and I'm doing my best to get him into classical music.

The only artist I can think of that we agree to differ on is The xx, who he loves, but I just can't get into - I know they're very good, but I just can't get excited by them and I yearn for him to put something else on if The xx show up on our speakers.

People were predicting that as long ago as the early 80s. As music grew more rebellious and raucous, it reached a point where the only way to go was to turn in on itself and get more light-hearted again. Post-modernism in action!

It's the opposite in my house. I can't stand a lot of my parents' music because the majority of it is either rather bland middle-of-the-road fare, opera or classical. Mum does play some Irish music though which isn't as bad. I listen to my own music with headphones.

Oh yes, I get you, I was talking from personal perspective: my girlfriend and I are more diplomatic than that with each other.

However, if we are sat in a restaurant and they are playing one of their three or five bland compilation CDs and I hear Huey Lewis or Shania Twain or some other crime against music I will be the first to say 'not f*cking that again'.

My boyfriend was indifferent about Madonna when we first met, now he can't stand her after listening to me play her over the years!

I can't bear it when he plays the White Stripes or Bob Dylan.

My wife quite likes Queen and I can't stand Queen. She doesn't really like much music to be honest, which suits me as I can get to choose what we have on. To be fair she mostly lets me get on with it.

Yes, my girlfriend is slightly tolerant of them as well.

Try The Black Satans instead. See what response you get

Black metal?

I might do that. It'll be funny. She likes her riffage, but not black metal...she draws the line there.
