On The Beach

I joined this forum at the height of the Dazel debacle and am guessing that I witnessed this place at its very worst ... based on the volume of original posts and comments spewing out vitriol and hatred here online at the time. A pity really because a week earlier, I had enjoyed the delights of forum chat reveling in the pure entertainment of the Dexter / Gina safe house episodes ... and thought your BB community here was a sublime and perfect model of just how good a public watering hole can be at its best.

I noted many long standing members attempting to dampen or neutralize some of the most hateful comments but also witnessed many other Digital Spy lifers using the Dazel storyline as a vehicle to vent rage and anger in a totally over the top manner, ironically using the most crude, disrespectful and offensive language to present their own alleged moral high ground perspective.

Yeah. I know. It's a forum and that's fine ... but what does the level of nastiness within its pages say about our lives, our culture or our world?

The public, you and I, apparently wished to send one housemate a sobering message yesterday and the producers obliged ... and gave that housemate a series of cruel and humiliating tasks to perform ... for our viewing pleasure. (Including dressing up in a snake costume).

I had thought this years show was brilliant ... and the ratings have kind of echoed my sentiment ... so why do I feel so uncomfortable with what I have witnessed this evening?

To be fair, the forum has improved since last year. It was terrible back then for a while.

I think it's got worse and it's very juvenile now

The forum has gotten better since BB12. It was nastier back then. BB13 was bad in terms of the forum because the series was quite nasty itself. This year, the general feeling is that most on here are getting along

Sometimes public forums and it's members with either agree or disagree, either way, please keep posting your thoughts and comments. No-one is ever right, no-one is ever wrong.

This forum is way more tame, subdued and vanilla compared to Facebook or Twitter.

Some people are wrong. Like someone who says Hazel will win... they are wrong.

Everything else is up for debate

Forum members being OTT in trying to influence others is more to do with trying to control the votes due to who they have bet on to stay and win tbh.

A lot of this is down to money, especially final week.

Eg if I bet on Dan to go, and I were a bit of a scumbag, I'd go round all the forums badmouthing Dan, or trying to arrange block voting, so I'd get my win.

You're never going to have a perfect forum, you just have to roll with the good & bad. There are enough good natured posters here to make it worthwhile.

Good post. There is always some vitriol but the last few years have been quite bad. I know it's a forum where all opinions matter but I just wish people could be more positive about their favourites rather than continually negative about their least favourite in order to big up their favourite, if that makes sense

It depends how you look at it. Several of them got gunged, and being called a snake and having to wear a silly costume as part of a task really isn't a big deal compared to some other things they have to do in BB. Wolfie was called 'least attractive housemate' and had to wear a sign round her neck as part of a task, which is much more cruel than being called a 'snake'.

Digitalspy can be a rough old place and sometimes you need a tin hat to support an unpopular houseamate. Sometimes the whole forum seems to go into a feeding frenzy; this year has not been as bad, by some distance, as BB10 and BB7 when Lisa and Sree/ Grace and Sezer were under discussion. The moderators do clamp down on racism and homophobia, and will stop pure name-calling in time. There are worse forums.

As a matter of fact, there are worse forums on digitalspy. The politics forum (and to a lesser extent, the General Discussion forum ) seems to be full of very, very angry people who will explode with rage if you cross them; and it is much less strictly moderated than this one. If you are feeling sensitive, don't go there if a woman has been accused of faking a rape allegation, or if an immigrant is accused of any crime at all; and never, ever admit to feeling sorry for the McCann parents if you value your sanity. I do though, as all decent people do.

Because you have a heart, a conscience and a moral compass.

What a wonderfully articulate post, OP.

It's always been juvenile to an extent. I'm just happy no one has said they would shove an epilator up my ass this year if I kept defending Deana. Lol. (It was a Conor supporter so I wasn't that surprised).

Yes there is too much of why do you like gina because hazel is a bitch etc which makes no sense.

Do any of these snake voters know what the term was supposed to mean, most likely no, it just seemed an unpleasant term to label at hazel

Wow, wish you'd been around when every HM was having a go at Dexter or Gina....... But there again it's better you weren't as their ordeal went on for weeks, not, a few task results.... & the wearing of a snake suit for a few hours.......you may, I fear, have had to lie down for a few moments.....

Good lord.

I used to put too much personal information in posts - I have a trusting nature - and had the privilege of a forum member totally unknown to me turning up at my workplace one day to say hello. I was not nearly as pleased as he hoped.

I know.

WHAT!? I would have died. That is not normal, they could have been dangerous, I hope you sent them off and told them to stay away. They could have followed you home or anything, creepy people.

This forum is pretty tame if you ask me. Like WD said DG is 'harder work at times' than the BB forum on DS.

Other forums around the internet are also a lot harsher than this one.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion & I respect most opinions provided they are constructive & not abusive. Interesting you found tonight's show humiliating because I am pretty sure Daley found it humiliating when she pulled his trousers down on TV. I am also sure his girlfriend found it humiliating every time she went near him and leaned over him with hardly any clothes on AND I am also sure his girlfriend felt DIRECTLY humiliated by BB when they interviewed her and supposedly gave her all the sympathy in the world only to stab her in the back & give the public the opportunity to put them together in the safe house. For Daley's part in it all...I have no sympathy for him because he got himself in that situation but for Hazel & being dressed up in a snake outfit she has got off very lightly.

I agree. I found the last two years not so enjoyable here. This year is mostly a pleasure in comparison. Mind you, I don't read most threads - just click on a select few each day & mainly stick to them - and tend to avoid the Hazel ones. I tried to steadfastly ignore the 'Dazel' threads when that was at its peak as I knew nothing good could come from reading them. So, I'm sorry OP is finding it tough going, but I'm having a rather nice but blinkered time. Stick it out OP, it has it's ups too.
