Yeah. I know. It's a forum and that's fine ... but what does the level of nastiness within its pages say about our lives, our culture or our world?

The public, you and I, apparently wished to send one housemate a sobering message yesterday and the producers obliged ... and gave that housemate a series of cruel and humiliating tasks to perform ... for our viewing pleasure. (Including dressing up in a snake costume).

I had thought this years show was brilliant ... and the ratings have kind of echoed my sentiment ... so why do I feel so uncomfortable with what I have witnessed this evening?”

I tend to agree with you.

CH5 seem determined to ruin what was a relatively decent show, this is the first one I watched for more than 2 episodes since Ch5 took over. They have a very low opinion of public taste, in that they can't contain themselves in a race to the bottom, but then again, maybe their opinion is right and I am just an optimist...

Last night's show was particularly nasty, spiteful and mean, maybe that encourages FM's here to get nastier too, although as I recall from the old Ch4 forum no one needed much encouragement, even back then..

The humiliation aspect of it, was pretty unedifying, made more so by some FM's revelling in it.

I dont know, I'm not here very long so i don't know what it was like in the 'olden days' :-p. Mind you, can't imagine it was likea bed of roses during the Ais V Nikki debacle either!”

BB7 and 8 were brutal in here.

It certainly was. Conor was a real nasty pig! He was an utter swine! There was a lot of bullying going on as well. Endemol should be ashamed of last year's series.

I stayed away last year and enjoyed the series but this year i thought id give it another chance but the odd few posters are getting me to the point of thinking why bother posting.

This week is the week the forums gotten really nasty although its nowhere near as disgusting as the showbiz forum which im guessing is where some of the newer bb fms have come from because the posts are quite obnoxious.
That said there are also some really pleasant and nice newer members who are prepared for debate rather than just getting personal.”

same here wasnt here last year so dont know what that was like

and i do feel the newbies are the worst culprits

I hope that it was the viewers watching that had got the sobering message.
That they had become a mob with typical bully mentality.

I can imagine. Glad i wasn't here. I was in my 20s then & was yet to learn some decorum. I would probably make the forum unbearable, spewing hyperbole and threatening to track people down commanding them to say 'Ais is a ho' To. My. Face.

I agree with many of the posters in this thread. This forum has become increasingly festering and obnoxious in recent years with people posting really nasty things about housemates.

I don't understand hatred for someone you don't know on an edited show, some of the posters sound like 12 year olds in the playground. Dan and Hazel have been vilified on here this year and I just don't understand why. I've ended up supporting them due to the sheer drivel and outright lies posted on here. Actually I think both are flawed individuals but there's not time to have a reasoned discussion with anyone.

This brings me on to forum favourites. In the last few years Aaron, Deana and now Gina. Any criticism of the forum favourites is met with abuse and you can't stick up for anyone else without being labelled a 'fan'.

I just cannot for the life of me understand the worship for Gina this year. She just seems to be pretending to be a cut price Paris Hilton. She isn't witty and doesn't appear very kind. I don't actively dislike her but gone are the days when favourites were based on housemates being considered decent individuals. Now everyone seems to worship shallowness and fakery.

OP, I do agree with you to some extent, but a quick look at the Daily Fail comments or twitter shows far, far worse comments. At least the vast majority of people on here seem capable of rational thought and feelings.

BB9 was the worst this forum ever was. The vitriol poor Rachel got on here. It was an almighty battle to the finish line for her but we got her to the winner. Was never more excited or proud off BB viewers than that day

Its the school holidays ......and rioting isnt going on at the moment

could be somethin to do with it...but DS has always had its fair share of rabid nutcases who dont have any where else to put their frustration

Bit like driving a car really, avoid the lunatics and ignore road rage or wave sweetly to disarm potential maniacs....and go your own way....most people are ok and some like me are lovely

For Daley's part in it all...I have no sympathy for him because he got himself in that situation but for Hazel & being dressed up in a snake outfit she has got off very lightly.”

But what has all of that got to do with how some FMs conduct themselves? I may not agree with much of what you've said, but at least you said it without using words like 'whore' and other offensive terms, expressing an opinion - no matter what it is - is fine as long as it stops being an opinion and becomes a vindictive rant, many of which I've seen over the last few weeks.

I read the OP's post as asking why there has to be such vitriol from some quarters, instead of a reasonable exchange of views, or am I wrong?

All posts in this thread have very valid points, all of which i respect, they make a lot of sense. But i can't help but think it's falling rapidly into an 'old vs new' posters corner.

This is my first BB on DS, i was on the C4 one, but like i said in a post i added to this thread earlier, one night some people went too far, and picked on/bullied a lovely poster for no reason, the fact that it was allowed to keep going (even after the bullied poster had expressed how upset her was) made me sick, i stayed away from forums for a bit after that!

The DS BB forum can produce very narrow minded views at times (the Hazel is a slut one in particular really gets on my nerves) but overall it can be a very fun and informative place, like all forums, you have the good, the bad and the ugly. DS is no different!

I however LOVE it on here theres a lot of very funny, clever, and helpful people on here, i wish i'd had joined sooner tbh.

Remember the good old days of BBLB and Dermot? Looking back I can respect Dermot because he managed to present the show every day for the duration of BB without displaying any bias or nastiness. There might have been the odd slip but overall I think he got the balance about right. That takes skill.

Russell Brand was great too and kept the show light hearted.
BBLB was a fun alternative to the nastiness on the forum.

BOTS is a complete failure by comparison - it's become plain nasty.

Cut price Paris Hilton is what Gina aspires to. Its certainly not an insult in the league of 'whore/slut' etc. If you read my other posts you would know that I don't actively dislike Gina, sometimes I find her amusing but I find her behaviour odd and don't understand the worship for her either.

I enjoy it on here but the political correctness, snobbery and hierarchy among certain members grates.

However it is alot better than other forums,I agree.

I think BB thought Dexter would be voted the snake. the public thought differently. It's just a silly name, it doesn't mean anything. Callum thought it might be him as did Dexter.

God! This whole thread reeks of "I like Hazel and so think that she has done no wrong so anyone saying anything differently, I will call unpleasant and make it out to be something wrong with them instead of Hazel."

Oh the irony that all the posters saying that Hazel has done nothing wrong and attempts at trying to close down any anti-Hazel opinion, has just kept this going and going.

Her supporters act just like Hazel: Dish the dirt and then can't imagine that it's anything to do with themselves and that they simply can't be at fault in any way.

I've never been on ANY forum (not just DS ones) that don't have some unpleasant people / weirdo types posting. Keyboard warriors, that's all. It's easier to be unpleasant behind the pc screen where you can (usually) remain in anonymity than to peoples faces, and consequently these people migrate towards forums to vent their spleen.
