Google announces video streaming gadget
Google announces video streaming gadget
Google have announced their latest gadget, a video streaming device which connects whatever your watching on your computer to your television. The Chromecast — which could cost as little as £30 — could change the way people watch TV forever as more people use online websites for their tv and movie fix. YouTube and Netflix are the two biggest companies that have agreed to the switch. http://www.cheshire-today.co.uk/1860...eaming-gadget/ |

Device Delivers Video To Your Tv From Your Phone
Device Delivers Video To Your Tv From Your Phone
TV-Internet convergence took another step toward reality with the announcement by Google on Wednesday that it is introducing a $35 device that will let users stream online video directly to their TV sets from phones, tablets or laptops. Somewhat surprisingly, Google said that it won't require those devices to be equipped with its own Android system. We will not force you to have the same operating system on all of your devices, Google executive Mario Queiroz said. http://www.contactmusic.com/story/de..._phone_3781120 |

It looks like a pretty cool piece of KIT and a great price.
I'm thinking about getting one to turn my dumb TV that is currently in the bedroom and useless as it can't get a Freeview signal into something more useful. As it can stream whatever I am looking at in a web browser to the TV, in theory I could use it to watch TV Catchup or iPlayer, or Sky Go on that TV. |

This looks like a real game changer to me especially with regard to quality and upgradability. The headlines are a little misleading: there is no streaming directly from the devices - individual apps call up content for streaming to the TV directly from the internet. And we are really only seeing the tip of the iceberg here.
