Please could anyone tell me what background music we could hear during the opening titles of 'Imagine...Woody Allen: A Documentary (Part One, 23rd July, BBC1?)
I don't mean Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, played at the very beginning, but the piece of clarinet(?) music that followed straight on from the titles.
Could it have been played by Allen himself?
Whatever it was, I thought it was great.
Anyone know?
Cheers.

I don't think it would be Woody Allen, but I may be wrong. He played in Eddie Davis's Jazz Band, which plays "Dixieland Jazz."

This wasn't a BBC production, the Yentob bits were just tacked on to a completed documentary, I guess it's easier for him. (I started to watch it, but couldn't stand some of the pretentious people interviewed).

The music for the original documentary series was composed by Paul Cantelon.

The tune you heard from this one is his, it's called unsurprisingly; "Woody's Theme."

There you go. Click on the one at the bottom of the list.

oh wow, that's fantastic! Thank you so much for going to all that effort!
I really enjoyed the first hour of part one - I loved seeing where Woody grew up and hearing about his early life, but concentration flagged a bit after that. For me, it was an hour too long, and like you, I didn't particularly enjoy the interviews (with the exception of his mother and sister.)
Haven't watched part two yet.
Thanks again - much appreciated.
