Does anyone care? It's not magic, it's a trick - can't tell you what the trick is but does anyone really care? So what's the point of watching it? (i wish it was magic, I really do, but it's not)

I know it's trickery, smoke and mirrors but I love it.

Has it improved over the first series?

It was pretty lame. Too many stooges and camera tricks. He can be a good magician but the tv show makes him look worse in a way.

I love all this magic/trick stuff. My friends son did some magic in my home about 1 foot away from me and still do not know how it is done

I watched his show from South Africa last night in a shanty town in Cape Town where he produced hundreds of fish from a small empty bucket.

Someone please explain that one

What's the bucket standing on?

Or could be he stops the camera, puts fish in, starts the camera again.

Have you got a youtube link?

The fish trick is after 38 minutes.

Thanks for the links. I've been away for a few days, so I'll watch them when I've caught up.

But the fish trick looks like a camera trick with stooges.

How is that amazing.

Im going to film myself drinking this cup of tea. When the cup is empty, i will pause the camera, refill it, then start recording again. To the viewer it looks magical, like a full cup again.

This is not a clever illusion, its the very lowest end of the scale. In fact, i would describe it as anti-magic.

Im a big fan of illusions. Some are very clever, brilliant in fact. But some are utter garbage.

A great example of this is the "impossible illusion" from americas got talent.

I watched this many times and could not work out how it was done. However, there is a camera trick (a huge bit has been cut at the 58 second mark). It just ruins the trick completely for me now.

Camera trick - so does not class as magic at all.

You film up to a certain point. Do a trick to the crowd, film their reaction. Go do the rest of the trick some where else. Stick it all together & bobs your uncle.

It's a shame. but how else are you going to get a load of fish out of an empty bucket?

I would like someone to explain the Samuel L Jackson trick. If we are to believe he wasn't in on it & no iffy camera work then its a good one.

I get annoyed when I do catch one of his shows as I can't "always" see how he's tricked me .

Some of you are suggesting that he uses stooges or "plants" but surely the inferWEB would be full of people tweeting how they were an extra in one of his "tricks" .

Well, all 'magic' is trickery of some sort. But resorting to camera tricks is pretty feeble.

So just his usual stuff - camera footage editing and a pile of stooges.

Even without camera trickery, his sleight of hand leaves a lot to be desired. I saw him doing a trick where he made coffee go through a table, and the switch under the table to an already filled cup was one of the most obvious things I've ever seen in a magic trick.

How do you know they are stooges? Genuine question.

I once saw a street magician walking around, He asked someone to pick a number, They said i don't know 24? And he walked off. Then further along he asked someone else and so on....there was a camera with him. So they obviously wait until someone said the right number then proceed to do the 'trick' Not always a stooge, because the person wasn't aware he had been asking others.

The water fountain one was impressive but again there is a very simple "solution" to this and anyone with a knowledge of chemistry would know how you can replicate the same effect

One of the early Derren Brown shows had him playing Rock Paper Scissors outside a football ground. He played many times and always won. Brilliant trick? It was only afterwards that I realised that they simply did not show the times when he lost. D'oh!

There is a sort of genius to that i think, You look for the complex answer and miss the blatantness of it all. Oh they are in on it, He makes them think this or that....No, They show what they need you to see. Brilliantly simple.

To me dynamo isnt really that great. Anyone can look good on camera.

Does he do live shows?

The best magician ive ever seen was one who was doing tricks at a private function. All his tricks were close up and absolutely flawless. He wasnt well known then (he isnt that well known now tbh) but he was so good to see. When you see bavid blaine, dynamo etc about 90% of it is camera tricks and stooges.

Let's take two examples : the collapsing dummy in the store and the fish in a bucket.

In both cases, the crowd saw how it was done, unless they cleared the public away at the bits they intended to cut out.

Yet in both cases the crowd managed to look astonished.

(I'm using "cut out" for simplicity. The cheating can be done by stopping and starting the camera, in some cases by turning the camera upside down, or by leaving it running and doing everything by editing. Obviously, the latter would be more accurate).

It's also worthy of note that the early shows used to show a "celebrity booker" in the credits - all the "celebrities" he kept bumping into were paid for.

i think Dynamo is way overrated. I saw a lot of his first series and too much was made of his walking across the Thames like Jesus or something.

Most of his tricks are crap and not impressive at all. I much prefer David Blaine in his 'street magician' years.
