How is it that Elissa was voted MVP 3 weeks in a row, but then put up for eviction by the same audience who gave her the MVP vote? Was there some confusion between voters or something?

It's kinda debatable, the most likely theory is that as she has so many fans she also has detractors, annoyed that she was doing very little to win the MVP. There was a small campaign to 'confuse' Brenchel fans into voting for Elissa by tweeting things such as 'vote Elissa for MVP' but I doubt that made a significant difference !

The way Helen speculated is how it went down.

Aaryn + Kaitlin would have received the most votes but since they were already nominated by Judd, the next person in line made it onto the block. There are enough Elissa/Rachel haters about for this to happen!

Yes thats clearly how it happened.
Im really hoping she survives this, she may not be the best gameplayer but it would be shocking if a few of the others stayed and judds HoH was wasted on Elissa when there are much bigger targets to get out.

I've heard a lot of people who seem to have trouble understanding this. When there are a lot of candidates for a vote, none of them need a majority, they just need a plurality. If there are a lot of similar candidates who are equally appealing, and one or two who stand out for distinctive reasons, the unique ones will have a huge advantage. Even if only a fairly small minority actually want the unique ones and a majority want one of the larger group, the wishes of the majority are diluted among lots of similar options. The only way to counteract that is for the majority to come together and pick a single one of the similar options to all vote together on. But for something as trivial as a TV show it's bound to be too disorganized for that to work.

Thus Elissa might have gotten as little as 20% of the public voting her for MVP and possibly even a smaller percentage voting against her as a nominee (presumably Aaryn got a substantial majority but was ineligible). But because of the nature of the voting system, even if 20% of voters like her, 15% hate her, and 65% are ambivalent, that may be plenty for her to win both a popularity and an unpopularity contest simultaneously.

That was exactly my thought. Did America get confused about what they were voting for. The only thing that has come out of it though is that Elissa seems to be showing her true personality now and it shows signs of not being pretty.

Except Elissa was the second option after Aaryn.

I personally put it down to Elissa being a marmite character. Yes, she has a lot of supporters who voted for her to win the MVPs, but she also has a fair few detractors too.

It probably annoyed some people that she got MVP, and whenever you get a relation of someone famous appearing on a show it annoys people. Though I think people should be judged on their own merit. It's also like vote to save or evict in the British version, someone might do well in a vote to save with several up but be evicted in a vote to evict.

Me too. She's nothing like her sister. Rachel was awesome to watch. Elissa makes me cringe.

I kind of want Elissa to get the nomination, but I also think it could spell trouble for her alliance if she does. Elissa can't play for the veto this week, so if she's nominated, I think that might mean only five people playing for the Power of Veto.

Spoiler
