Vodafone awful signal & reception, anyone better?

I'm sick of not getting a 3G signal with Vodafone now, usually most places I go. Then when I do get a signal from home its awfuil and I have to repeat myself 5 times, its as bad for voice and data services.

How can I check if theres a better network for me, im in Halifax. Also not just Halifax but throughout the UK is there a better network then Vodafone?

I have an iphone 5 so 4g would be handy too.

Thanks

If you want to keep the phone and use the 4G service, then right now your only option is an expensive tariff with EE 4G. If you can wait a few months, you'll also have the option of 4G on Three. They're the only two which are compatible with the iPhone 5's 4G bands.

Buy SIM cards on PAYG and test them out, its the only way in knowing which one will provide the best coverage in the places you visit.

As grumpy said, only EE & Three are compatible with the current iPhone 5 4G, so best bet would be to get an Orange & Three SIM card.

Three will be providing free 4G access when they launch it for everyone so they may be your best bet.

Hi waddym,

I'm sorry to see this.

For further help with network related queries I'd recommend following the troubleshooting steps in the Network Issues thread on our eForum here.

If you'd like to discuss your account further, could you email me with your details via the Contact us form here and quote the code WRT135 - FAO Lee in the subject line?

Once sent you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. Could you update the thread with this and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?

Kind regards,

Lee

Standard network statement there from Vodafone “it’s not our network, it’s your phone”.

I use Vodafone via Ovivo and managed a whopping great big 20Kb/s download on Vodafone 3G last week in West Bay, Dorset and much the same in Lyme Regis though sometime I do get 1Mb/s download at home but only sometimes.

All my calls, text and data are free so I can’t complain but with a useless network I am starting to use my 3, 3-2-1 sim because although I pay, it works.

Vodafone were responsible for easily, hands down, the worst service I ever had.

Here in Newcastle, I signed up on a contract with them for a Galaxy S, and after the first month, I was completely unable to use 3G any time at all before about 10pm. Through the day? Forget about it.

Not their problem apparently. They could provide a 2G service.

After months, and months of complaining, I managed to get my contract terminated by them with 4 months remaining.

Apparently they are even still having the same problems to this very day (congested 3G network in Newcastle).

Thanks to Vodafone, I have NEVER had another contract since, the thought of being tied in with a provider who doesn't give a toss about its customers is unthinkable to me now.

My experience of Vodafone has been the same. When I moved to Vodafone 3 years ago things were great, but slowly the level of service has declined.

I'm not on Three and things are much improved. It's only been a short while, but so far so good.

Vodafone 3G coverage was just as dire for me a couple of years ago - mostly in Cornwall and Devon but in Berkshire too (it might have been a tower that was down for maintenance, but I wasn't even getting a Vodafone 3G signal while driving right outside their global HQ in Newbury!)

EE and 3 are superior in every way.

Hi there, I'm working in Halifax today and can confirm that the Vodafone signal is dire. My phone is showing an H connection, but emails are failing to send and I'm getting no internet. At my house near Portsmouth it's OK and in London it's usually good, but anywhere else in the country is hit and miss. Usually miss!

I left Vodafone for Three earlier this year for pretty much the same reasons some of you mention. Their data speeds and availability were very poor. A lot of VF sites are still using first generation GSM 2G equipment, supporting an unusable GPRS (G) data connection. GPRS in 2013? The hardware is so old, it cannot even support EDGE! (E). 3G coverage is very hit and miss in North Wales. Great.... unbeatable if you just want to call and text on 2G , however.

The toss up was between Vodafone with abysmal data speeds or Three with superb speeds but much smaller coverage.
