This test build of MX-Player works:
https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen...ion/test-build

(though the decoding option needs to be changed from HW+ to HW)

There's a whole thread with 90+ posts here:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!to...er/nycAYX5md-g

Some have even flagged the developer.

I tried vlc beta about a year ago and it was shit.

I tried it last year too and didn't like it but the latest beta (this is the 16th!) seems to be better. Looks like it's one of those applications which just have a never-ending beta release.

Going to try the "unofficial" MX release now.

It's not unreasonable to assume that a beta product has improved somewhat over the course of a year. It was updated very quickly with a 4.3 fix and works well with whatever I have thrown at it.

I still prefer MX Player... but since that's not an option at the mo, VLC is a perfectly fine sub.

Didn't work for me. I didn't get the unsupported OS message but the application keeps crashing when opening a video, either locally or streamed.

VLC it is then.

Did you change the decoding settings?

I see a choice of HW+ and SW decoding but no HW.

SW doesn't work either.

Ah well. If I find anyway to make it work online I'll post back.

Hopefully MX player just has some code that looks for versions it doesn't support, which can be changed very easily.

Hopefully. But it still needs the original dev to do it.

Another update for MX player is out.

I also got a wireless keyboard working with the nexus 7, using the OTB cable and a wireless keyboard dongle.
