Simon's Back!
At the end of bootcamp, all judges will fly out to America to discuss the final acts with Simon on his yacht. Here, Simon will reveal the category each judge will mentor for the competition, face to face. Sound very exciting.
The article also confirms the previous rumours that bootcamp was to be filmed in America, with Simon. What ashame that didn't happen. That would have been much better, and probably would have boosted the series overall average rating. Anyway, there's no denying that flying the judges to Simon is actually a great idea, and could be quite good. I'd imagine The X Factor would make it as dramatic as possible; could make for great TV. Thoughts on this? |

It's not a bad idea. But usually, every year bar 2010 and last year, the ratings take a dip during bootcamp. Last year, they sort of rose from a lower base.
As long as Simon has a significant role in the series, I think that'll help it a little bit more, but I hope the producers realise that they can't rely on him throughout the series so they have to get it right with the judges and contestants. However, if they get some contestants that are going to become real talking points (e.g, Susan Boyle in BGT 2009), people won't seem to care too much about the format or how the judges come across. It's the dramatic element that usually people like best. |

If so, I think no. No more wildcards. There's no need - just allow the judges to pick their best three/four acts for the live shows and leave it at that. |

You're talking about a wildcard, aren't you?

Simon could allocate an additional act to each category who he thinks deserves another chance, which would lead to 16 at the start of the live shows.
They could then have a similar launch to the 2011 series with 16 acts and four going on the first weekend though in this case the top two in each category would be chosen by the public with the third place being decided by either the mentor only or Simon via cam. I didn't think the 2011 launch was a bad idea in principle but not allowing the public to vote was a big mistake. |

Update: The Daily Mail are stating that Simon and the judges will decide who makes it to judges homes while in America. If this is true, how will the contestants be told that they've made it through? Will the judges just fly back? That wouldn't make any sense. Flying back from America to Britain, then a couple of weeks later they'd have to fly from Britain again to another abroad location for judges homes. Maybe contestants will be told by Simon on a big screen?
