Last I heard it was rumoured to be due for a US summer release. That doesn't seem as likely now though. I guess it depends on when she announces the first single.

I'm personally predicting a fourth quarter release.

Next year i think

I wouldn't release my album with the likes of Lady gaga releasing theirs in the next couple of months

She just needs to pick a good month, so the press and media don't rival her with a release the day as Britney's

I can't wait. Teenage Dream was exceptionally great.

Both pretty much sold the exact same as each other. It's mutually beneficial for all not to release too close together.

Saying that I wouldn't be surprised if Katy's album is saved for 2014. It all seems very quite on that front. We should hopefully get the lead single this year though.

The US market has shown multiple times that albums released on the same day generate higher first week sales. It's the spirit of competition and fans making sure they win. Kanye and 50 sold record amounts back when they made their bet and this year, Kanye, J.Cole, and Mac Miller all found same day releases beneficial. J.Cole even moved his release a week up specifically to compete with them.

That's my point exactly Gaga is supposed to be this huge artist and BTW was expected to sell on a 21 level but in fact sold as much as somebody who was something of a non entitity at the time. In so much as moderate selling album and 2 big hits. In alot of ways Teenage Dream did much better than Born this Way save for the tour (thoug CDT was a big tour itself)

So for me i really don't see it as an issue as Katy is in a much more stable position off the back of Teenage Dream than Gaga is off of the back of Born This Way. And like the other poster said the nature of competition will help and aid both with big sales.

But idoubt we'll hear anything soon she is after all only halfway through (Her own words).

Katy Perry was far from a non entity when TD was released.

She wasn't exactly a megastar either she was what Ke$ha is expectations were not exactly high.

I feel the same way. I'd like an album similar in sound to One Of The Boys over Teenage Dream. More acoustic guitars and less autotune would be good

She's announced as headliner of the iheartradio festival in September, it would be pretty odd if she didn't have any new material to perform there.

I think there will be a new single in September and then an album later in the year or at the very latest early next year.

haha Katy played it safe with Teenage Dream churning out generic pop music. Gaga took a risk with BTW and it payed off. Call me when Katy sells more albums than Gaga and has a high selling tour.

paid off in what way exactly? by selling less than her début or by not churning out a string of memorable hits that she was famous for at that point? apart from the critical acclaim and some fans claiming that the album was an iconic moment. i don't think the album resonated the same way at large as her previous releases did and the album campaign seemed burnt out after about six months.

with katy it was the other way around. her second album cemented her position as a pop star and she built upon her initial commercial success. katy sold massive amounts of singles from that album and with "track equivalent albums" being focused on increasingly within the industry, she certainly delivered in that respect.

you're quite right about them being on different levels though. gaga was a phenomenon, but its difficult to hold on to that level of success and that will continue to be her benchmark or perhaps her burden. the generic remark is a bit rich though, especially considering "born this way" and "judas" are the epitome of throwaway pop.

This is basically exactly what I was going to say, but with much more detail so thanks for that.

BTW is hardly a massive flop, but I fail to see how it "paid off" either. The generic pop remark is silly as well. BTW did have some riskier, more experimental tracks that I loved but the title track, Judas and Marry The Night were all pretty generic. I liked them as well, but they weren't amazingly risky single choices.

Also, Katy's tour and album both did very well for someone of her stature. Before Teenage Dream she wasn't really even a major player in the pop industry.

Again agreed with all that has been said. BTW wasn't universally panned nor was it a critical darling. The general public en masse were not taken with it and most casual fans didn't enjoy it either. Save for Edge Of Glory and BTW none of the other singles resonated and the campaign was all but over in a bout 9 months. Yes the tor was a success but everything else was a disaster. And do not get me started on Joe calderone poor Britney look mortified as did we all ;p

Teenage Dream might not have been genre defining a leap forward but it was a solid pop record with countless good songs that cold be singles many of which were and number 1 too. It rose her profile spawned a huge tour and sold 6M along the way the same as BTW.

And just to reiterate my earlier point which was that Gaga being as big as she was should ahve way outsold and out performed Katy bt in almost evry way save for the tour she just fell short.

Yes but Teenage Dream defined Katy Perry and her career and turned her into the megastar she is now. It was a completely different sound from her first album. As for her next album, I think a mix of One Of The Boys and Teenage Dream would be good.

Katy and Gaga are definetly the two greatest rivals in pop right now.

It will be interesting to see exactly what happens to Gaga and Katy with their new albums. One of them will come out of it the bigger star but its difficult to predict which one that will be. Katy is American sweetheart while Gaga hasn't quite got that status. However Gaga is obviously the bigger artist at this moment in time but Katy's success on the billboard is incredible. If she repeats that again then she is onto a winner.

Going to be fun.

I was hoping she would release it this Summer but it won't be happening now and I think it would be risky of her releasing the album late this year as Britney and GaGa both have albums coming out then so I think we'll be getting the new single and album within the first few months of 2014
