Urgh. How long does a pigeon take to rot?
My outdoor cat has a little hidey hole under the rosebushes, where he often sleeps and shelters. Today I noticed that he had a dead bird in there - now usually he leaves his dead birds on the doorstep, and I get rid of them, but he obviously took this one into his hidey hole to eat.
It looks as though it's been there a few days and is covered in flies and stuff, and looks nasty, so I don't particularly want to be picking it up. But does anyone know roughly how long it might take to rot down to just feathers and bones so that I can clear them up? There's not a lot of body left, but there is some, and a bit of head and blood and so on, and of course the flies. |

And the maggots. Don't forget the maggots. Sorry! That was mean!

Just bag it up and chuck it in the bin.

That is going to stink to high heaven before it rots down in this weather. When I have to remove bodies I tend to grab it with my hand inside a plastic bag so its already bagged and ready to go to a hole or in the bin (if its near bin day).

Get a shovel if you don't want to handle it.

Oh god, I know you're right, I'm going to have to get rid of it. It's vile though, all fallen apart and moving...

Put some bleach on it and leave it for a few minutes. Then when you shovel it up you won't be shooing all the flies away.
