Tips for toilet training a puppy?

We got a Dachshund puppy last week and she can't seem to grasp the concept of doing her business OUTSIDE, she widdles on the kitchen floor at least once a day

However, surprisingly, she never has accidents in her cage overnight

So, how do you toilet train a puppy

You have to take puppy out after each feed, or drink, or when its played for a while you take it out, wait until it does something. then give high praise. Never tell off if they do it indoors, just ignore clean up. Its up to you for the first couple of month at least to always take it out, every 1/2 hr if need be. They are clean in their cages because they sleep there.

You really can't expect a little puppy to know what they should do.

Take pup out on waking, as soon as play stops, after eating, after drinking, and anytime they look like they might be thinking of going in between.

They soon get the hang of it and ask to go out but you have to be vigilant and consistent.

Congratulations on the new arrival you will have a lot of fun with her I am sure.

And that's why I was asking for tips

Thanks for the two replies.

When we house train we watch our pup all the time they are out of their bed. If they look like they're about to crouch down you can scoop them up and quickly take them outside. We also take them out when they wake up, after a game, after food and every 20 minutes or so anyway. Lots and lots of praise is given when they "go" outside, and accidents are just cleaned up without any fuss whatsoever. We always take them out on the lead and as they're about to go we say a trigger word - we use "busy". Our dogs will go to the toilet on command now, which is very useful. It's a very intensive time, but, put the work in, and a pup will train very quickly. A pup will already have some idea as they are trained by their mother not to soil their bed. You just need to build on this.

I have had no problems house training dogs I've had in the past. As soon as they were fed they were outside to do the toilet.

I've just got another puppy but i've also got a few other dogs and she seems to pick up habits off them. It's quite good. They go outside to wee, she follows them outside and copies them.

Dogs training dogs, brilliant.
