They've gone on a reality tv show, not cured world hunger

I was similarly struck yesterday between announcing the twist and the eviction. They were all hugging the three nominees and wishing them luck with such pathos.

Anyone would have thought they were going off to their certain death fighting on the Somme rather than preparing to climb some stairs on a TV compound.

I would almost be tempted to match the prize money for anyone whose family said that.

Thing is nearly half the families should be saying it.

The families are probably pretty shrewd by now. They know that the letters are going to be featured and can be used to boost thier loved ones chances.

I'm surprised that they were all a bit samey and boring TBH No mentions of an ill relative or pining pet among them.

Well they're probably proud in general. Most people mums and dads are proud of them aren't they ?

Why is it a negative thing?

LOL I said same when Dan went and Hazel was doing the 'it should have been me, it was my time to go, not his'

And then we had the obituary 'he was fun and clever and generous' etc.

I was laughing away screaming 'He's not bloody dead!!'

I am a mother...do not push my kids..do not live through my kids.but always proud of them... ???
So if they were on Big Bro.. doing their stuff (ok..not the Daley thing)..I'd be more than proud... my children being themselves? I love them..end of...?

Yes but they e not murdered anyone either. Two extremes but surely a parents default setting is 'proud'. Some might say its an achievement getting into the BB house in itself. I'm just playing devils advocate here, but I can't see anything any of them have done in there that would change a parents perception of their child in a negative way.

I don't know. I would be mortified by the antics of many housemates over the years if they were my family. I suppose families are thinking of their beloved little sons and daughters being isolated yet on the telly and exposed to the wide world twenty four hours a day, warts and all. Such confinement and such scrutiny are still a challenge, (especially in the eyes of their loyal loved ones who are watching avidly and anxiously, willing them to do well), though clearly nothing like undertaking some danger-filled adventure or important humanitarian enterprise.

Think it's because they are on telly, so that their parents can tell their neighbours of that fact, and how proud they are of them for being chosen.

Saying "you're a raging alcoholic and we need to check into mother daughter rehab when you get out" does not win you any money and does not get you any jobs on spin-off shows.

I am glad someone else treats the show with a healthy disdain.

And 'all of Maidstone' citizens* are behind Callum. So it's not just parents.

*At least that's what the ones she meets tell his Mother..

I have absolutely no doubt that the good citizens of Maidstone would like to see him stay in the house as long as possible.

I cant understand the whole 'haters' thing. I have my faves, and the ones I'm not keen on, but to be honest it's just a TV show. At the end of the series I'll turn over the set, watch something else and not spare a thought for this lot again.

Blinkered. Just totally in denial about what's being shown. On another note, anyone else notice all the letters seem to have come from the HM's mums, where were the dads in all this?
