Should Big Brother Be More Of A Game Show?

Just a thought, im not even sure whether its something id even like myself but its something I have thought about now and again.

Say for example just up until the final the way you progress in the series is by competing in tasks and challenges. Not just Physical but Mental and Endurance challenges aswell. The weakest 2/3 are put up for eviction.

Or maybe just flatout the last place is eliminated and BB make their money from votes on deciding the tasks or something (Not really thought that part through too much). Then the Final 5 is just a vote to win.

It could see people trying to play a game more. Walk over people, see who really would backstab to get to the top.

It might be an awful idea, I haven't figured out for myself whether I like it or not yet. Just wanted to get peoples opinions.

When it looked like BB was finished in 2010 I thought then that it could be revamped as an out-and-out gameshow. No pretension about 'the experience', no media wannabes who just want to raise their profile - the only people picked are those who the producers are satisfied are there to win and have the nous to do so.

Of course, other things would need to change. A big increase in the prize money for one, and no unfair twists, no outside influence, just everyone on a level playing field vying to be first.

In my view if there's a contest where viewers are invited to spend money deciding the outcome then there should be a regulatory requirement for a proper and fair set of rules.

Naturally the rules would have to include wiggle room for the producers to keep the show entertaining but not the current situation which allows them royally to take the P.

NO--there are plenty of proper Game Shows out there--The Cube, that one where they fall off balls into water in South America, back to Crystal Maze. BB was about PEOPLE interacting in confined & pressurised situations and we were shown ALL sides, then allowed to judge then vote OFF ones we felt displayed poor Human qualities in the challenging atmosphere. MUCH more interesting to watch than professional fake/excrement-bagsters like 'Speidi', since, weirdly, a LOT of BB is about our perception of ultimate 'Morality' [tho BB has its own weird Moral Codes--like shouting abuse into a stranger's face if you have a passing annoyance with them is BETTER than just being polite and letting their foibles pas-- Example: Sallie 'I'm honest Me'] BAD idea.

I agree. A mixture of the US version with public voting (VOTE TO SAVE) would be amazing. Or just the American format with a UK twist. Such a missed opportunity when channel 5 could have revamped the show. In my opinion game playing is the only aspect left of the show yet to be explored.

Yep, with 'was' being the operative word. I wouldn't mind a return to that kind of format, but it seems that those days are gone forever. Potential HMs are now far too savvy, and also believe, rightly or wrongly, that BB will be their platform to media success - both things that detract from the idea of people being themselves and us judging them on their natural behaviour. There's also the fact that 'reality TV as a whole as moved on (not for the better IMO) and viewers increasingly want drama, regardless of how contrived it is. For these reasons I can't see a return to that more innocent age.

At least with a gameshow format there is no pretence as to what it's about, and with proper screening they could eliminate the wannabes. we'd know, from the outset, that everyone there was there to win, and we could enjoy their manipulations without the moral outrage that usually them now.

I think it's time to move on from the contrived and personal aspects of the show, and to just look at the HMs as contestants competing to win a prize.

Yes that pretty much sums up what my reply would have been

Cant we just have TOWIE with weapons.

Could then perhaps have a bit of a cull in desperate wannabees.
