Problems playing VCD on DVD

I have a thompson DVD player and I have problems playing VCDs on it, some times they work first time other times the same CD just says no disc. I then end up inserting the CD many times until it eventually plays. Any suggestions?

no offence but are they cheap discs? Reasoned asked is because i had one of them 100 spindle packs and the DVD would make the VCD stutter and hardly work at all. Tried a quality disc and it worked perfect first time

is your DVD player listed as being CDR compatible? If not then you may well find that there are only certain brands of disk that work. I had a samsung DVD709 which wasn't supposed to play CDRs but with the right ones it would work OK.

If this is the problem then the price of the disks is not really the issue (on my samsung the best ones were vivastar ones from argos in a 50 disk spindle), but its the colour and the make-up of the dye and how the laser in your player deals with it.

Try looking at www.vcdhelp.com for some more info, very good site.

He didn't even say that they were CDRs.
midunn - Are you trying to play CDR, CDRW or prerecorded VCDs?
Normal VCDs have played fine for me and the only ones I've had problems on occasion are cheap CDRs (off a 100 spindle) all my good quality CDRWs work fine.

i have tried many different cdr's in my dvd player when creating my own vcd's, i have tried many like memorex which just wont work!

but ive finally find a cdr that works in mine! TraxData! they work first time perfectly! but guess what?? Apparently trax data have gone bust!

ill give them vivastar ones from argos a go! hope they work! if not ill use them for my coughgamescough backups of course.
