And stop talking like a tw*t?

Nigel, you are just a cook, you're not Michel Roux, Jr.

He is accessibly eccentric and rather charming for it.

I have to admit, I literally rolled my eyes when he said that.

I saw him judging produce with Matt Baker on Countryfile on Sunday. I didn't recognise him at first with his big straggly beard and long hair. He's an amusing chap though, and witty.

I don't see why he needs to get a haircut. He's clearly done well for himself so far looking the way he does.

His presenting style is something I find grating. A bit too pretentious although I really like his recipes. His food is unfussy and tastes good.

This and his recipes are also very good. I like his Simple Suppers although he does expect people to have some random stuff in their fridge/cupboards. I also like his garden and his cat which you see occasionally!

I used to really like him, his book "Appetite" is still one of my favourite cookbooks. Sadly, I now find him a pretentious, camp as a row of tents tosser.

His hair doesn't bother me - but I wish I had his correctly wrapped cheese, and mountains of random herbs/ ingredients he has in his kitchen - I do like him tho'.

Anyone seen his biography/ autobiography? ' toast'? It's also in book format.

He's not a bad chef, I'll give him that, but lately he seems to be very pretentious. Apparently he's a bit of a fantasist as well; according to his stepsisters: when he wrote Toast, he allegedly told a load of lies about his stepmother. Here's the link:

I can't stand him.

The way he handles things is just aaarrrgh! Before each dish he cooks there is a little sequence showing him gathering the ingredients. Look at the way he gingerly picks everything up, as if he's carrying an unexploded bomb.
So contrived - urgh.

I agree about the tramp hair too.

I saw the drama they made and really enjoyed it, but haven't read the book.
I just can't abide watching him on tv though, he freaks me out and his fingers look like willies.

Well they would say that wouldn't they.

How sad that the stepmother and her daughters could be so judgemental of a little boy who'd lost his mother and whose father didn't like or want him...

LOL! I know exactly what you mean. It is a wee bit creepy, the way he sort of fondles the ingredients.

I'm gonna be a bit mean here but I do sometimes wonder where he's been. Does he wash in the morning? Does he ever wash his hair?

I don't particularly find his delievery that convincing and what he dishes up can be a bit derivative. He's a food writer so it's nice to have people other than celebrity chefs doing cookery programmes.

Actually, you have a good point. He was very close to his mother, and having read things from both points of view, I get the feeling his stepsisters were quite bitter and that he was telling his story and that's how things were for him, if you get my drift. He used to use food to compete with his stepmother for his father's attention: especially over lemon meringue pie. His stepmother wouldn't divulge her recipe, so he'd use subterfuge to build up his own version. In fact, this is what he said:

It was all very clever, really. I know he lost his father six years after his mother died. How sad. At least he made a name for himself. I do like how he isn't a celebrity chef, unlike most of these TV cooks.

I saw his show last night and the thing that got me was the fact it had reached Saturday and the lazy sod hadn't even bothered to put away his shopping! Just left it sitting out.

He also only went shopping for dinner foods? does he do a separate shop for each meal and then for snacks as well?

Very pretentious and he cooks with a lot of unhealthy food I felt.

Geezer seriously needs to man up and stop talking such crap about what he cooks.

I actually like the look of many of his dishes but he'd be no good backing you up in a pub fight.

I'm surprised he doesn't grease a baking tray with his head, the scruffy scrote.

I watched his new show the other day and found it teeth-itchingly pretentious.

Toast is a fantastic book though, so I shall forgive him for his pomposity.
