Afraid not - he was in his cage in the car on the car deck

On a practical note, I checked both going and coming back with the relevant authorities and there was no restriction on birds.

I'm afraid I'm going to sound like a loon, but my cat goes where I go. And if my cat can't go where I go, I don't go.

He's family.

My friends moved to the Caribbean and paid about £600 each for their dogs to be flown with them but put in a pressurised hold. That was for the tickets and their dog passports etc. And the flight took far less than a shipping container

Duome thanks for sharing your lovely dog story. On a similar note, just over a year ago my older dog was feeling her age of 13 years. We then got ourselves a bonkers Springerdoodle puppy. Our older dog has since lost half her weight and is actually enjoying life and her walks once again. You wouldn’t think she was 14. Fingers crossed that she too lives another 6 healthy years.

OP Good luck in New Zealand to you, your dog and your family

Out of interest how long will the dog be quarantined for on arrival into New Zealand?

I presume the op is flying them too, just used the term 'ship' to describe what he was doing.

If the dog is up to date with the nessiary vaccinations I believe it's none, but not 100% on that

That is so sad. A friend had her dog put down after having a baby. She lied to us and said the dog had been put in a shelter, but her husband blurted it out. I found it hard to forgive her.

Either they would go with me , and if I couldn't afford it then I wouldn't go.”

Me too.

Because people often use dogs as substitute babies and when the real thing comes along they feel no need to treat it well. People are idiots (I say this a lot).

On the other hand there are some good folk out there,We had one old dog come in last week, the family had a new baby who was really allergic to him, they had tried everything but the allergy was getting worse as she grew, they sobbed and balled and spent a good twenty mins in the car park trying compose themselves, it brought a tear to everyone at the centres eyes. I can't imagine that choice. Good news is he found a home within about a week and will be going soon.
