In my lifetime I have noticed there it is very rare for actors in soaps to be interviewed on a mainstream chat show and I was wondering why aren't they interviewed? Would you like to see them interviewed? I would!

Graham Norton said he wasn't interested in having soap stars on his show.

Dunno about Alan Carr or Johnathan Ross, don't watch those.

The same could be said about any guest on a chat show. I'd argue that many more people watch soaps than go to see a lot of the actors and the films they appear in that do get onto chat shows.

Chat shows don't have much money these days I should think. Austerity measures.

Many of them are either too private, or too busy, or both. Also I spose, soaps are different to tv shows and films in their plugging, in so far as soaps have relatively constant ratings figures, and are always present, as opposed to tv/film which come and go.

I spose the other thing, is that save for the more famous soap actors, soapstars can often only talk about that one character, or are too synonymous with the character for the actor to have much recognition and thus be a draw to the chatshow?

It would be nice to see more on there though

It would be great to see soap actors interviewed. I'd l have loved to have seen Ross Kemp/Steve Mcfadden interviewed during the Mitchells hey day and the late Mike Reid and loads more. They could be asked about their personal lives/intererests to an extent as well as previous work. A lot of the celebs on chat shows now have been on there numerous times before and its getting predictable with them imo.

Probably because they don't have much time, as there always working. Soap stars apparently work really long hours.

They must have gaps as not all characters are given storylines at the same time.

I don't remember him being interviewed at all while he played Grant. Once after he left EE with Parky I remember.

I think Graham Norton said he wasn't interested in stars from Emmerdale/Corrie/Hollyoaks on his show because; and I quote: "No-one cares"

And Sam Womack and Rita Simons. I'm sure he had Nigel Harman on too once as I remember the interview - it was pretty funny .

So he wants to only interview EE actors? I don't think I've seen ANY soap actors on his show.

Now, anyone who's read my posts about Graham Norton knows I am a fan of his ever since the days of SGN, but this is my one problem with him. He seems to have had a about face about the soaps.

The only soap stars that I have seen on Graham Norton's BBC show since the start of the programme are Jessie Wallace and Letitia Dean. Perhaps as the show is a big hit globally, they want recognizable faces and Eastenders is a big hit in the States. Whatever. On Graham's radio show I've seen Jeff Hordley, and a ton of former and current favourites from Corrie.

I recently listened to his radio podcast where he interviewed Ashley Jensen who was promoting her new series featuring the actor who played John Stape. She mentioned that he played a baddie on Corrie and asked Graham if he knew who she was talking about. He basically responded that he doesn't have time for the soaps and only watches them if he has one of the actors on!

When Graham was doing his Channel 4 shows, he often had people that he liked including people from Corrie and Eastenders mixed in with the other guests. Dolly Parton and Tyrone, Lauren Bacall and Sonia and Jamie, Shannen Doherty and Janice. It seemed like he really watched the soaps.
Here's a clip of him interviewing Anne Kirkbride :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69fOb31SPSI

I also remember the summer before he started his radio show, he filled in for Chris Evans, he invited Helen Worth on and (at the time) mistakenly expressed regret that Betty Driver had been let go from the show.
Plus I have Inside Soap #100 from about 10 years ago where Graham Norton gives his take on British Soap.

I find it a bit weird that now that he's got prime real estate on the TV front, he's interested in the bigger names which is all right and like I said his show is a worldwide hit, and each country has its own soaps, but that comment from the Ashley Jensen interview was a bit strange. I still love the show. I mean the reason I got into Graham was the fact that he had soap people on the programme but that comment just threw me. Sorry for the long rant.
