BT Infinity installation - no faceplate

He said he would have to go in the loft and find where the extension split off from the main socket
That makes no sense, any extension has to be taken off at the main socket, unless some DIY bodger cut into the main BT cable and installed an extenstion from there. In that case I'd have expected a BT installer to either have fixed it (and billed you) or refused to touch it.
