Lost BBC channels on CH60

Hi all,

I did a fresh scan to pick up new Freeviw channels and lost all my BBC channels on mux CH60.

Seems it is down to the 4G reshuffle.

Well I think I have found out why

From here http://www.a516digital.com/2013/05/w...t-800-mhz.html

Digital UK, who is overseeing the retune event, warned that older Freeview PVRs made by Vestel and sold in 2006-2007 under various budget brand names, including Digihome, Durabrand and Techwood, which did not receive over-the-air software updates in 2008 will now no longer be able to receive all Freeview services due to the Carmel transmitter using an 'offset' frequency from today
.

This offset is meant to be a negative offset. Does anyone know if the PVR80 can be tweaked.?

I have tested with a neighbour's fairly new Freeview TV and it re scanned and obtained the BBC channels fine.

TIA

Which software version is your PVR80 running? It needs v5.7 to be installed to resolve this issue. It can be downloaded from http://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/T810.php and uploaded to the box via the serial port. In case you are already running v5.7, then the problem will be that this box has a bug where only 99 channels are retained - so after scanning, you need to delete unwanted channels from the channel list to bring the total below 100.

Thank you, that sounds like good news.
I haven't played around with this for quite a while. Could you please remind me how to find out what version I have.?

I do remember uploading the twin tuning version

EDIT: From that link I see I have V1.0(UK) created 2006-11-09 @13:13:41

Guess my dual recording needs to go.? ::

Edit: My BBC has been working up until now. I recorded Glastonbury this year. So will it still fix this change.?

Which transmitter are you on - Carmel? Since the BBC mux on the Carmel transmitter has apparently been using a negative offset since May, perhaps it just doesn't become a problem until a rescan is performed.

Unfortunately, yes, it does look like you'll have to lose the dual record software in order to pick up the BBC channels . The dual record software was never updated, mainly because it got moved onto the newer T816 models instead (partly because of the T810's lack of memory).

Thanks futaura,Yes I use Carmel as I live in the west part of swansea. I can live without the dual record. I have a genuine 160gb as opposed to the PVR 80 I upgraded to 160GB, so can always use that as well if I need to.

Mind you after this started I have taken a shine to the Humax HDR-Fox T2

But I'll give the other f/w a go first.

And yes, until you do a scan the channels are still there. I can confirm this after I scanned with the bedroom box, it lost it's channels as well.

Well I've found a suitable lead and dug out my old laptop with serial port.

I get the Cabot message when I power on the PVR but then the disk checking starts and I get no reponse from hyperterminal?

It's been ages since I've done this and am following the instructions at http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/vestel/update.htm but I'm obviously missing something.

I've even tried sending the file when the channel; display comes back.

I'm testing on my PVR160 which takes an age to disk check.

Edit: Being a dumbass, I just missed a vital step of switching off and on the mains.

You can also hold the power button down on the front panel for 5 seconds, instead of powering off/on, which forces a reboot.

And the BBC channels are back.

Thank you futuara

A donation is on it's way, you saved two useful boxes and given them a few more years life,

Good to hear - some people often describe Vestel boxes as cheap rubbish, especially when they fail, but I think in the majority of cases they are pretty reliable hardware-wise. I've never had any real issues with my collection, and my T816 is still working fine all these years later. Always nice to rescue ageing boxes with a software update . And many thanks for the donation.

That would have been a lot easier.

I'll bear that in mind for the future.

Just got to get used to this colour sceheme now. I did like the dark blue on the twin tuning version.
