Edit: This would be better suited to the Champions League thread, posted it in here accidentally.

It will be interesting to see what charging model BT go for.

Personally I don't see the CL being PPV / "BT Champions League" as that kind of model has failed in the past - remember Prem Plus?

For Non Broadband customers how much more can they charge - To me £12 / £15 per month was already pushing the limit.

For Broadband Customers it is going to be a difficult job extracting additional revenue (unless they simply keep it "free" but markedly increase the BB price.

Either way it is the consumer that loses.

getting away from football/CL chat above because I have no knowledge of it and Zero interest in it.....

found watching Moto GP that testing will be on BTSport 2 on Monday 1 to 3pm and tuesday 10 to 1.....

but getting very concerned as no news on who will be presenting and commentating yet the testing is being broadcast in 2 days and it's very difficult to find anything on BT website about Moto GP at all..........

possible presenters are around of course.........julian ryder has been rumoured but maybe with keith huwen rather than toby moody.

Could even be Parrish and Ryder as a possibility.

Jamie Whitham/Jack Burnicle/James Haydon though think they are tied to Eurosport BSB coverage having that been just renewed...

Also available may be Gavin Emmett and Nick Harris and Matt Roberts in pitlane.

Of course could and MUST have Azi Farni presenting also (but only after our forthcoming marriage though I do want to keep her all to myself as long as possible) *sighs*

No spoilers on results themselves but Moto 3 was totally wonderful right to the very end so unlike F1 this year...
Moto 2 interesting and Moto GP absolutely superb

I'll record testing tuesday but as no commentators yet announced am getting really concerned that BT Sport (like the BBC did) has Moto GP listed as "other sport" rather than a tab of it's own and it's difficult to find a section for it or that testing not well advertised either...

I do hope it's not the sign of things to come and like the BBC got a jewel and then didn't know how what to do with it
(as noisy smelly very loud motorcycles not quite fitting in down the golf club lifestyle of bbc executives)....and shuffling off to one side became the norm.....they could have extended today's show being the very last but had to go on to forum on red button...in some ways they deserved to lose it to BT.....

now with dedicated sports channel I hope after tuesday it starts to develop its own page and columns and becomes clear who will be fronting it but not holding my breath...hope proved wrong...

Would you be saying the same thing if one of the power companies secured exclusive rights to the country's entire gas supply by paying 2.5 times what the other companies currently paid. "Amazing well done British Gas" - I don't think so.

Who the hell do you think is going to pick up the tab. Last time I looked BT wasn't a registered charity. Like Sky it is a corporation interested only in its bottom line and shareholders. They both talk as if they care about customers but at the end of the day it's all about how many of us they can hook and how much they can squeeze out of us once we are on the hook.

Indeed would you be saying the same if Sky had secured the same deal as BT.

It'll serve some of the footy fans on here right when they find out where all of this will inevitably lead ie spiralling subs sooner or later. And for those who are wetting their lips at BT getting its hands on more EPL BT currently pay £250m pa and Sky £750m pa. By any realistic estimate if BT want to try and pull the same stunt with those rights they'll probably need to bid £1.5bn or more ie 6 times what they pay now and probably double what Sky currently pay. No way could they give that away with BT Broadband either.

Wake up and smell the coffee. The only winners here are BT and/or Sky depending on whether their strategies work, and the rights holders. Not us. We are just collateral damage.

While you are right, that will be the outcome whether BT, Sky, or another broadcaster buy the rights. The days of sport on free TV are sadly becoming less and less, and this will only get worse now that there are more companies trying to make money from showing sport.

Bit of a misleading title to that article which implies it has set aside £1bn for summer sports rights when in fact it is referring to the sum it has just paid for CL rights.

The article is more speculation than substance as things stand.

I fear this is all going to end in tears either for one or both of the main protagonists or more likely for us as we have to shell out to both Sky and BT much larger sums to see exactly what we can see now for less.

Which makes everything less and less convenient for the viewer.

French Open tennis would be a steal for BT.

Even more of a cheaper rights deal, would be the ones for the NBA!

I presume BT aren't getting the NBA now, surely if they wanted it they would have it by now. I'm a bit surprised they haven't got it, but I suppose they have quite a bit of American sport in the late night / early morning schedules already.

How can the NHL get a deal to show their matches over here (be it Premier Sports, but it is still shown over here, that is the main thing), yet the NBA has nothing, no tv exposure at all.

It is such a good sport to watch, and has some amazing games, yet no-one seemingly wants to broadcast it, I just don't get it.

I'm starting to think the speculation on their Facebook page that they're not bothering with a TV deal until League Pass subscriptions slow down might be true. I guess if nobody bought the league pass they'd have sorted out a deal quite quickly, instead they're content to just sit around and milk the fans who will pay near £200 a year to watch it.

I would love to watch the NBA, and have previously watched it when it was broadcast over here over the years, but this season has been so frustrating, as I am not prepared to sump up even more cash for their League Pass, so I have been relegated to just following it by any means that I can.

It is such a shame really, as it is at a very good period right now, there are some excellent players, and excellent teams.

It is just a farce that we don't have a tv deal at the moment.

My guess is that the NBA deal will get done before Christmas - about the time the American Football starts to wind down. Would follow the same playbook as last year.

On the MotoGP commentary Team - Any hope that the Eurosport team (Moody et al) will move?

I can't see the connection here. UCL is only one part of a sport being shown such that the public can take it or leave it. Your analogy with British Gas can't work as power is not optional (although you could switch to only electricity). That monopoly situation is illegal whereas one part of one sport being shown by one channel is hardly monopolistic.

You miss my point. I was responding to someone saying "well done BT" and essentially asking why any consumer should praise a move by a supplier with regard to a particular product which is likely to put up costs for most existing consumers of that particular product.

It was an analogy, not a direct comparison claiming that both the payTV and power supply markets are identical.

Well that would be better than nothing, so I hope that you are correct!

But it really shouldn't be this hard to watch though!

@Gomezz - apaprently showing repeats detracts in BT's eyes...we've been having the same discussion about the increasing lack of European football repeats on Monday/Tuesday...
