Yes. But it's not really 'free' as BT will more than likely charge a lot more for line rental and BB than other suppliers.

May be best to do a deal with your current supplier and buy BT sport as an add on.
BT dropped the price of their broadband to coincide with this.

£16 v £7.50. More than twice the price!!

Just making the point that Sky subscribers wanting BT Sport may be better going to or sticking with Sky BB, especially as Sky are currently offering free unlimited BB for Sky Sports subscribers.
Someone joining BT BB will pay £8 per month for the first 12 months, They will also get a £50 sainsburys voucher and can get £80 cashback.

When all that is taken into account, it works out cheaper than sky over the initial contract period.

You also have to remember that if you are keeping sky BB then you have to pay activation fees for BT sport everytime you want it switched on.

Bloody Elbow reports here on the launch of BT Sport citing a Broadcast report that 207,000 viewers watched the Bayern Munich v Manchester City match, the channel's peak viewing figure, giving a 1.21% share.

It reports dissatisfaction amongst UFC fans who can no longer watch online as this service has been discontinued in the UK as part of the BT Sport deal.

A critical blog entry here in the Telegraph.. More a criticism of the lack of Sky Sports via BT than the channel itself. And although a blog, the Telegraph is a paper of influence.

Poor figures in that article, the 23,000 "new broadband customers" are actually customers that took BT TV.

BT line rental, £15.45 or £141 annually.

Sky line rental £14.50 or £119.40 annually.

BT unlimited BB £16.

Sky unlimited BB £7.50.
But how does that work out cheaper than paying £12/£15 to BT for their sport as a standalone exactly? Works out £8 more expensive if you keep sky line and bb and pay for sport standalone.

Sky line rental £14.50
Sky unlimited broadband £7.50
BT Sport £15 if taking HD
= £38 per month + activation one off charge £15

BT line rental £15.45
BT Unlimited broadband £16
BT Sport free
=£31.45

Works out cheaper unless I am missing something? Plus there's the wifi hotspots over 5 million compared to Sky's 10,000, smart talk app, home hub 4 etc.

Factor in the 12 months half price BB for new BT customers and it works out a lot cheaper first year.

Not really, because you still end up paying 12 months anyway. So it's fairer to compare a 12 month deal against a 12 month deal with Sky

No, I am talking about people moving specifically.

If someone switches from sky to BT then for the first year they will not pay £16 per month broadband. They will pay £8 per month.

Yes they will pay £16 for a further 6 months but if you do an 18 month comparison then it does take £48 off the BT price.

It is a crucial part of it for people like me who switch regularly to the best deals.

I'm no Liverpool fan at all but one of my bugbears is commentators who won't shut up for a minute and just let viewers take in the atmosphere. I'd have thought Michael Owen would know better than to talk all through You'll Never Walk Alone.

Sky offer retention deals.

Personally i would be 50p a month worse off moving to BT (extensive calculations).

Lets give the £40 gift card that was available (now reduced to £25) a value of £36 (because Sainsbury's is slightly more expensive and i would never usually spend that much in a single shop).

So for the sake of £25 (36-9) i would be tied into an 18 month contract for phone and broadband (rolling contract at present). I would be charged for calling Sky customer service if i needed to discuss my TV package. Plus i can currently cancel BT Sport if i end up not watching the channel very much.

I don't know any company that doesn't offer for retention deals?
I'm wasn't giving an example of specific deals anyway, we would be here all day working them all out. I was giving an example that standard line rental and broadband with BT sport as well would work out cheaper with bt than sky.
Obviously there are people on bundle discounts etc and it wouldn't work out cheaper for everyone.

The only retention deal that I was offered was 12 months half price line rental.

Jake a minute ago on BTS1:

"How big is it for rugby that we've got every game live here on BT Sport. Are the guys pumped about that?"

I know it's only the 3rd day but it is beyond absurdity.

He said they had "every Aviva Premiership game live on BT Sport" on the first night too I think.

It is absurd to suggest that the guys would be "pumped about that".

(The guys being professional rugby players).

Just as it would be absurd to say that pro rugby players are "pumped" that all Heineken Cup games are on Sky.

Or that they would be "pumped" that all England autumn internationals and summer tour internationals are on Sky.

etc etc.

He didn't suggest. He asked. And the person he asked was free to say yes or no.

He is trying to promote BT sport and create a buzz. He is doing a pretty good job too.

BT sport must be doing something right. The sky sports subscribers in thsi thread seem to be watching discussion programmes on BTS1 while the ashes are live on SS2.

An internet forum discussing broadcasting is hardly representative of the wider public.
