Most of the reason for the Sky wholesale was because they were reluctant to allow Sky Sports on anything other than Sky.
BT Sport is available on Sky, VM, BT-TV etc.. So i don't see BT being forced into wholesale, as they are making their channels available, you just have to get the sub from BT, which is not an issue in the slightest.

The OFCOM ruling was about Sky's dominance of the Pay TV sports market - and the availability of Sky Sports to other Pay TV retailers at a price where they could retail it competitively. See link below - in particular paragraphs 1.6 and 1.7:

"1.6 Sky exploits its market power by limiting the wholesale distribution of its premium channels, with the effect of restricting competition from retailers on other platforms. This is prejudicial to fair and effective competition, reducing consumer choice and holding back innovation by companies other than Sky. In the case of movies the fact that Sky also owns but barely uses the subscription video-on-demand rights denies competitors the opportunity to develop innovative services.

1.7 We have decided that we should use our powers under section 316 of the Communications Act to ensure fair and effective competition by requiring Sky to offer the most important sports channels - Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 - to retailers on other platforms"

So it wasn't just about channels being available on platforms - it was about ensuring fair competition between Pay TV retailers.

Anyway, coming back to BT, BT won't be forced to wholesale now as it's not in a dominant position.

But if, hypothetically, BT won 116 PL games to add to CL then it would be in a dominant position - at least as far as football is concerned - and the same competition issues would apply.

But this is all subject to the Court of Appeal verdict anyway - as the CAT has already ruled against the original OFCOM Pay TV ruling.

User reports state that BT Sport can now be recorded on BT YouView. Should overcome one objection of accessing BT Sport via this device. The main objection - non-access to Sky Sports on BT YouView - remains.

Thanks 1andrew1- your post prompted me to manually download it! BT have confirmed that it's being rolled-out:

http://community.bt.com/t5/YouView-f...s/td-p/1089512

The update gives all internet channels record and live pause functionality apparently.

I currently take only BT Sport on BT Youview, but my first impression is that it works well on BT Sport/ESPN.

A Bundesliga. 2 (St Pauli v FC Koln) match on BT Sport 2 next Friday, kick-off 5.30pm. Their second game live from the second tier of German football this season?

Yep, and both featuring St Pauli. Probably since they've become quite famous lately over here with coverage on shows like the Football Ramble.

Arguably BT's biggest game of the season coming up today?

I still wish they'd lose the solid graphics during live sport but hey ho

I don't really like how they are now including this social media bollox during matches.

Mark Halsey has been bigging himself (and his book) up in the press again this week suggesting he was England's top referee.

Must have missed that period

I'm really looking forward to this too.

I too hate the scrolling in extra time of the teams for the 3pm KO's. I still also wish they would move the score line to the top left. To me it just doesn't sit right at the bottom for football games.

Yes on all of those. Would it kill them to wait or at least change the design? I know Sky do this during the early Sunday k/o but its a lot less in your face.

It wasn't put up during injury time today - it's gone up over the post-match analysis instead - so maybe they have finally taken notice of the complaints and dropped it.

Makes a change that BT listen to viewers as they seem to have the ITV attitude to viewers complaints.
Hide them under the rug, because they're out of sight, they're out of mind
Just hope they move that ghastly solid black BT SPORT logo to the top of the screen along with that ghastly score bar.
They're still getting complaints about it, yet ignoring!

Yep. really pleased that the ridiculous ticker that appeared previously at the 90 minute mark has gone, hope today's absence wasn't a mistake!

Yes, that was crazy. I loved David Ginola's comment 'Oh. I've killed someone'

Generally I like the ticker - gets the anticipation of the 3pm kick offs going and takes away a little from the isolationism perspective that tv channels can sometimes have on how big their game is compared to the rest.

However, in a match of so much late drama, BT made the right decision yesterday.

BT ready for more 'eye-watering' TV rights bids after Champions League

http://www.theguardian.com/football/...sums-tv-rights

My understanding is that only Ofcom-approved PSB channels can show the World Cup, and BT would have to be on a PSB multiplex to even apply for this. Is this correct?
The clear implication of that statement of intent by BT is that they intend to go after a greater proportion of EPL matches and, although not explicitly stated, I'd be willing to bet that they'd much prefer to end up with a majority of EPL matches. That would then make BT Sport the "must have" options and, unlike Champions League rights, it would inflict significant damage on Sky's autumn and winter sports offerings.

I wonder if the executives at Sky and News Corp who dreamed up the move to attack BT by going into broadband, telephony and service bundling are beginning to regret their ideas and decisions (probably not yet).
