I love NBA so I'm glad someone has snapped up the rights. BT are really going to town and I can see them bidding and getting nearly everything when rights are up for renewal. They will need to increase their channels soon

Updated list of live PL ratings and comparison to the same period last season:

BT Sport:
Liverpool v Stoke - 451,000
Fulham v Arsenal - 413,000
Man City v Hull - 303,000
Man Utd v Crystal Palace - 485,000
Norwich v Aston Villa - 281,000
Spurs v Chelsea - 443,000
Man City v Everton - 377,000
Newcastle v Liverpool - 496,000
Crystal Palace v Arsenal - 611,000 [free weekend]
Newcastle v Chelsea - 432,000
(Round 11 - No game)
Everton v Liverpool - 448,000
Average - 431,000

ESPN:
Newcastle v Spurs - 420,000
Chelsea v Newcastle - 450,000
Man City v QPR - 296,000
Sunderland v Liverpool - 504,000
(Round 5 - No game)
Man Utd v Spurs - 551,000
West Ham v Arsenal - 477,000
Norwich v Arsenal - 409,000
Man City v Swansea - 354,000
West Ham v Man City - 383,000
(Round 11 - No game)
Norwich v Man Utd - 513,000
Aston Villa v Arsenal - 412,000
Average - 434,000

As previously posted a disappointing rating for Everton v Liverpool - only slightly above the average for the season for a game which was arguably BT's most attractive up to that point.

Note that the two seasons are now out of synch as there was no PL break for internationals in November last year. But I'm doing the comparison up to the same "weekend date" in the calendar - ie the Norwich v Man Utd game on ESPN last season was on the weekend which this season had no PL games.

- So after two weeks without a PL game, BTS1 returns to its much more typical level of reach and share.

- As noted above the Everton v Liverpool rating was disappointing and the Aviva Premiership ratings were also much lower than normal - presumably because of competition from the autumn internationals.

- There is still no real sign at all of reach or share growing as the weeks progress - ie no real sign that people are steadily signing up to BT Sport whether as paying subs or people switching to BT broadband and then signing up for free. I'm sure some new people must be signing up but there's no sign in the ratings of any growing momentum.

- ESPN had its lowest reach of the season by a wide margin - not sure why that would be.

Would I be right in saying that the Bundasliga figure on BT Sport 1 was their highest of the season?
Looks a pretty good figure even considering it was a Sat eve kick off.

Will be very interested to see the figure for yesterday Tottenham Man Utd game and also for their next 2 games which have Man Utd at home against Newcastle and perhaps then the biggest game of the season so far Man City v Arsenal.

No Mark Halsey again tonight, does he not normally appear on the 7.00 BT Sport live program with Darren Fletcher and Neil Warnock?

It could just be my personal circumstances here but I wonder how much the Rugby League World Cup Semi Final on BBC had to do with the lower than expected rating for this.

I'm from Merseyside, this was a big game for me, but I'm also a RL fan and decided to go to Wembley for the England v NZ Semi Final which kicked off at 1.30 right in the middle of the football. I know a lot of people who missed the derby game because they were watching the RL, and given that this kind of game is more appealing to Northern fans who may also be RL fans this could be a reason for the low rating.

As much as I or other people from Merseyside might like to believe that our derby is revered nationally the fact is that it isn't right now because both sides have been nowhere near challenging for the league for a while. This isn't the 1980's and our derby is not the trophy deciding derby of those years gone by. Until one or both of Liverpool's clubs is a regular in the Top 4 again we will see fans from other parts of the country treat it like they would Newcastle v Sunderland, namely that they know it's a big big game for those involved but really not that relevant to their own team or the race for the league title. Man City v Man United up until 4-5 years ago had the same problem, yet now it's regarded as the biggest game of the season merely because of the bigger ramifications involved.

So, given that the audience for a Merseyside derby would be heavily skewed towards the North West I am inclined to believe that the RLWC Semi Final (which had a big audience on BBC) played a part in the low rating. Had it been Arsenal v Tottenham for example I reckon the rating would have been higher with less conflict of interest amongst the fans more likely to watch the game on BT.

Rugby League peaked at 2.83m I think.

I dont have a match avergae but lets say 52,000 watched the rugby instead of BT Sport which I don't think is out of the question, then BT figure would look healthy.

Does anyone else not mind the score in the bottom left side of the screen?

Gary McCallister is an awful commentator, I can barely understand what he's saying most times.

I don't mind it any more because it's easy to obscure and I get a nice clean screen. That's not so easy if it's at the top but can be done with judicious use of TV zoom modes on some TVs.

I think ALL onscreen score bars and boxes should be user-configurable in this day and age - including being able to turn them off. It's two thousand and perishing thirteen, not the 1990s!

It might help if he stopped shouting. Really annoying.

Found a rating (approximate) on Twitter for the BT Sport game on Sunday:

Quote:
“Sky Sports1 top digital channel 3.3% all time - 1.4m & 1m for Super Sunday games. BT Sport attract (best yet?) 600k, Spurs v Man Utd midday”

http://twitter.com/LiamHamiltonDCD/s...54278119194624

BT Sport 1 had a 1.1% share of all viewing throughout Sunday, equalling Dave for instance. It had 2.8% of Men 16-34, just shy of BBC Two's 2.9%.

I cannot stand the scorebar and logo on the bottom. Its all i can see thanks to the green pitch as its background.
What makes it worse is the logo is solid black also.

Agreed on the commentary, he was not good. Michael Owen is better and thats saying something!

If correct im sure BT will be delighted with the possible 600k for the Tottenham game.
Encouraging figures all round for them if confirmed.

Quote:
“BT Sport’s initial viewing figures for Premier League football games compare very favourably with those previously achieved by such companies as ESPN and Setanta.

What is more, on a typical Saturday or Sunday another 100,000 users now watch content through its app.

Speaking in a presentation entitled Examining the growing role of premium content, Simon Green, head of sport, BT Sport, said that the first Premier League match it showed at the start of the current season in August attracted 900,000 viewers, while the most recent (Tottenham v Man United, on Sunday, December 1) had 1.1 million viewers.”

http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2013/...-predecessors/

Thought this would be of interest to mlt11 and others.

Presumably the figures quoted are peak audiences, but even then they seem to indicate a very high number of app views.

Thanks - I suspect those figures will be reach not peak - ie number of different people who watch 3 mins at any point.

Would we not expect BT to outrate Setanta?

The freebies to BT customers alone will boost it considerably

So far BT's live PL programme average is almost identical to ESPN last season - see post 2880 above.

BT has greater availability and better games (overall) but these are so far almost exactly offset by the worse timeslot.

I think that would be a dead cert as far as Setanta are concerned but I would be very interested if we could find out the peak figures.
