Jake does seem to have gone quite quickly from a decent tv presenter to a not particularly likeable walking bt ad -

Comes with the territory to an extent I'd accept but difficult to turn that image back in future years when you've embraced it as fully as he has.

That said increasingly - popularity or lack of doesn't seem to make much difference to ones prospects on tv.

Sky. I just said I moved from sky to BT.
I had the same when I left sky for vm about 5 years back. They were quite arrogant and insisted I would be back after the year! It seems they have money to burn.

On another note, I have just cancelled VM (got off the phone to them) I am taking up BT with everything as my wife refuses to go with Sky tele because of the hassle we had with them last time.
Installation date is August 27th.

I would love to have everything with BT but no infinity in my area.

I have noticed some sky retention types seem arrogant but then some are quite nice.

They know they have their core cash-cow subscribers so they can afford to call people's bluff,

But in the current climate, you would think they would bend over backwards to keep people.

An internet forum discussing broadcasting is hardly representative of the wider public.
I didn't say it was.

Anyone watching BTS1 instead of the ashes is a result for them though.

Jake a minute ago on BTS1:

"How big is it for rugby that we've got every game live here on BT Sport. Are the guys pumped about that?"

I know it's only the 3rd day but it is beyond absurdity.
They did something similar in the build up to Gerrard's testimonial when they put up a clock counting down to the kick-off like it was the Champions League final rather than than an insignificant pre-season friendly.

Of course BT have to make the most of what they have and promote it as such but that can surely be done without trying to make out that English club rugby, WTA tennis and UFC are the biggest sports events in the world when everyone knows and recognises that they rank pretty low in the hierarchy of sporting importance.

At least when Sky hype events, they tend to be pretty big in their own right anyway.

What do people think of the picture in picture reactions?

Do sky do it?

Noticed it just now when Napoli scored and a little box appears showing the upset Arsenal defender.

I like it anyway,

Wish they would put a red button on sky with interactive options, Is it even possible?

It supposedly coming to mine next month but we will wait and see.
I can get an average of 6mbps that will do me. People will think I am mad for leaving fibreoptic but I get slowed down to roughly these speeds on VM at primetime anyway. As long as I am able to use the smart talk app, the hotspots and view bt sport I am happy

You're right about sky retentions, some seem great and some seem stubborn and won't shift and they seem happy to lose customers. I spent an average of £60 with Sky a month so was surprised when they wasn't interested in keeping me.

People moan about the extra cost of BT but those extras really do make it worthwhile,

The reason I won't switch to them fully without infinity is the lack of linear channels.

Their on demand offering is nowhere near as good as skys but the 18 or so premium channels they have are well worth it if you can get them.

Yes I'm liking it too. When arsenal got the penalty it was on AW in the small box and main screen for the penalty. I have to day I hate BT as a company but so far I'm loving the sport channels. Plus its not all about the prem league other sports are good too.

Has the manager cams been implemented yet? Or is that when the season starts?

Arsenal getting soundly beaten at home to Napoli.

It is clear they will have another also-ran season.

I'd hate being an Arsenal fan, the amount of times I'd be shouting "shoot" at the TV...

I really like Hargreaves as a co-commentator, refreshing insight and an interesting voice. Less convinced about Owen. Darke superb as ever.

As I had to renew my contract anyway for 'free' BT Sports, I decided to do the 'free' upgrade for BT Cloud at the same time - so two for the price of effectively one contract renewal. So now I have 50GB cloud storage I am just uploading a 5GB encrypted 7zip file (containing hundreds of individual files) at 17Mbps. This is quite cool (and snooper-proof).

Now when's Homehub 5 going to be available... it's a good time to be grabbing all those 'contract renewal' freebies.

Darke was very good as usual today - really should be clear cut no1 on BT and not rotated with Fletcher.

Wasn't impressed by Fletcher today - still needs to get out of radio mode and doesn't sound like he will have that big game authority - although willing to give him time to adjust.

I've gone for the 50gb cloud storage too. It will come real handy when I am on the move, having my movies accessible on my tablet etc. Anyway I am hijacking the thread sorry!

I am looking forward to watching BT Sport albeit in sd. I am really looking forward to the UFC coverage the most, that should be really great!

They can't over work Darke though

Just a question. This has probably been answered. Even if your a BT Infinity customer, do we need to pay £3 a year for HD next year? I signed up about a month ago so I just assumed I had HD free for a year, then next year I'd have to upgrade?

If you're a BT BB/fibre customer BT Sport SD/HD is free.

It's only Sky Customers who don't have BT who got the free HD offer for one year.

Right now, all we know is that HD is free for the first year if you signed up before August. Even BT Broadband customers signing up now have to pay £3pm for HD, so we can assume this'll be the case into the future.

Maybe they'll do another similar offer next year where those extending their contracts for an extra 12 months early will get free HD for a year, who knows.

Wrong and wrong. SD is free for BT Broadband customers, HD is £3pm, regardless of what TV platform you're using. SD is £12pm for non-BT Broadband customers, HD is an extra £3pm.

The extra HD fee was waived for the first year for those signing up before August 2013.

EDIT: Just noticed a very faint retention of the BT Sport 1 HD logo in the bottom right of my plasma screen - in particular, the "HD" part. Never seen any retention on this TV before...must be the fact that it's black.

BT need to sort their website out then. Just had a look and it clearly says "BT Sport is free with BT Infinity and BT Broadband"

Directly underneath are the logos for the six channels, 3 SD and 3 HD. No mention of extra charge for HD.

Whatever thoughts are about Jake, you have to say he is certainly working very hard.

He's been on air from 11.30am to 7pm today.

Still not sure what will happen on PL Saturdays. Will Jake continue hosting on BTS1 after the PL game with the Aviva on BTS2 or will the Aviva be on BTS1?

He's good but he will be over worked if that's the case. They will need to bring an equally good anchor, otherwise the guy is never gonna get any family time.

Why whats he doing for the other 6 days a week.

Also 11.30 until 7 is hardly overworked!! Most do 9-5 5 days a week and still find plenty of time for the family!!
