Liverpool v Cardiff
Not a bad game to be fair if always a little one sided. In the past three weekends, BT have had first picks and seen average ratings soar above 600,000. I'd guess at an average in the high 400,000's for this one with a peak of just under a million.

Any predictions for average/peak audiences?

Warmed to Jake Humphrey a little bit more after his very genuine tribute to David Coleman after today's match.

I'll take a punt for Liverpool v Cardiff at 490,000 average with the fact that changes to BT's Premier League coverage appears to be paying off with higher viewing averages.

Looking to Boxing Day, I would guess an average of around 400,000 for West Ham v Arsenal, mainly because of the 3pm kick off (many people will be supporting their clubs at this time). Man City v Liverpool in the normal BT Saturday slot should have compared similarly with Man City v Arsenal but in a slightly more favorable slot, the average may even exceed 700,000.

Do we have any official viewing figures for Liverpool v Cardiff on 21st December?
Also, there's a number of Christmas NBA matches on tomorrow. Will anyone be watching it as a festive treat?

Cracking BT Boxing Day Fixtures.

After a rather slow start in the local London derby, it was an entertaining second in which Arsenal fought hard to victory.
As a guess, with the kick off time of 3.00pm, it wasn't the most attractive time for other footballing fans so I would guess at an average somewhere in the region of the low 400,000's.

Man City v Liverpool was a cracking match and at the kick off time of 5.30pm - a more attractive viewing slot than the 12.45pm one - I would expect somewhere in the region of 700,000 considering the size of the encounter and weight fan bases between the two teams.

Zero interest in football for me I can only have bt broadband in my rural area but a by product is it solved decision for me and I get the sport which means I get the sport I do want of moto GP.

Don't know if been mentioned further up thread but I'm quite pleased as they seem to now be trailing it on the channel and it seems North One is doing the coverage and they have been excellent on the TT races and other broadcast for ITV4 motorsport.

Steve Parrish has already worked for them on the TT and I wouldn't be surprised to get Craig Doyle as presenter.Matt Roberts in pit lane and Azi ....please please more Azi... *sighs*
Maybe even Jamie Whitham with Steve.

Anyway they are quality broadcast outfit so I'm quietly hopeful it will be good next season .

Massive numbers for BT Sport yesterday:

UK TV Ratings ‏@TVRatingsUK 23m
'@btsport had the biggest multichannel rating of Boxing Day, with a peak of 1.85m/8.3% at 7.15pm for Man City-Liverpool. @mrjakehumphrey

2.4% all-day share too for BT Sport 1.

Yes, very high figures. Setanta peaked at 1.4m for Croatia V England I believe.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/200...gs-television1

BT still hard to analyse given numerous factors. Looks great but if Setanta at its peak had just over a million paying subs, then the figures from BT suggest around the same (given BT customers all get BT Sport free)

Of course, as mentioned a million times before, BT more about broadband.

Anecdotally this does feel a tad different from Setanta. Aside from about four games, I don't think BT's match quality varies that much from Setanta but whereas Setanta were criticised heavily, quite a few friends I have who are football fans talk like BT and Sky are equals. i.e. Instead of I have Sky for the football, they now say Sky and BT.

Just noticed ESPN are showing the Mubadala tennis championships (Djokovic v Tsonga at the moment) - think this is the first time men's tennis has been on a BT channel?

27-12-2013
Yes, colossal numbers for BT Sport - massively higher than anything we've seen up to now.

One interesting stat is that the peak of 1.85m for Man C/Liv is only just below BT Sport 1's weekly reach of 1.97m in w/e 15/12/13 - and that was the week of BT's previous highest rating PL game (Man C/Ars).

The encouraging thing is it shows a lot of people do have access to BTS (whether free or paying) - more than would be imagined by looking at the ratings for BT's "normal" Sat 12.45pm PL games.

Which in turn means that from a business point of view the channel is achieving its objectives to a greater degree than would be imagined by just looking at the weekly PL ratings.

ie A lot of people have got the channel but aren't watching it that much week in week out - primarily because of the Sat 12.45pm PL slot. But BT's overwhelming objective is for people to get the channel - how much people watch it doesn't matter very much - as long as people watch it enough that they want to keep receiving it.

Liam Hamilton on Twitter reports BT's average as 1.3m, the top rating for a 'non-terrestrial' channel yesterday and just ahead of Sky's lunchtime game.

I've asked him for a more precise figure and to confirm that it is a programme average rather than a match average, but I'm 99% confident it is the former.

But it's no skin off people's noses to want to keep receiving a channel they're getting for free; the acid test will come if at some point they find themselves having to pay for it either directly via a subscription or indirectly via much higher broadband fees.

Since the coming of December, BT really have upped the amount on viewers on their Premier League coverage. Week in week out they were soundly getting mid 400,000's until the Sunday midday kick off between Tottenham and Man United reached approximately 618,000. Man United against Newcastle also average over 600,000, as did Man City v Arsenal (about 683,000) and now the staggering 1.3 million average for Boxing Day (Man City v Liverpool). That should really push the average audience of Premier League matches above predecessors ESPN and Setanta.

Note: Is there any figures for West Ham v Arsenal at 3.00pm and Liverpool v Cardiff last Saturday at 12.45pm?

Liam Hamilton confirmed to me on Twitter that the programme average for BT's Man City match was 1.34m versus Sky's 1.32m for Man U at lunchtime.

I don't even think even in BT's wildest dreams would they of expected those kind of figures let alone beating Sky with the average.

Im sure they will now be hoping for more of the same on Weds evening.

Looking further ahead im sure now they will be expecting some very good figures for their mid week games coming up in the next month or so.

If the peak figures are correct then it shows that hundreds of thousands of people watched BT Sport for the first time during the City v Liverpool game. The peak figure of 1.8m is a lot higher than the previous high, so this shows that lots of people who had access to the channel hadn't actually used it up until Wed. So, that game was a breakthrough game for BT. It got people tuned in for the first time, got people to download the app for the first time and made people aware that they have big games.

This was the bonus of having a big game on Boxing Day. Had the fixtures not been kind to BT and had they ended up with West Ham v Arsenal and (let's say) Man City v Newcastle they would still be in a situation right now where hundreds of thousands of their potential viewer base had still not bothered watching a game on the channel. But, now they have. They now know that the channel has big games, they know that Sky don't have all of the big games, they know that they have the app there now, etc, etc.

This should result in them coming back on New Years Day and in the big midweeks when BT have Liverpool v Everton, Spurs v Man City and especially Arsenal v Man United. I personally didn't think Boxing Day would work out as well for them as it did. It's a day when families dominate the TV set and football sometimes doesn't get a look in. But I was dead wrong, and the kick off time of 5.30 must have helped because it sat between the afternoon TV and the prime time stuff. I also think there may have been many football fans fleeing the living room to watch the game on the app or the website as well. All of it helps BT gain a foothold and awareness.

Yes, completely agree. The double header on New Years Day should attract a very large audience considering the Boxing Day success. Certainly Man United v Tottenham at the favorable time of 5.30 could surpass the average of 1.3m for Man City v Liverpool because of the huge Man United fan base.

Just out of interest did anyone watch the Skrill Premier Conference game at 12.00pm on Boxing Day? I quite like the BT non league coverage and heard it got 150,000 viewers in one of its games a while back which is fantastic.
