Also, it doesn't seem to make any sense putting it on any other time because surely one of the main points of the programme is to preview and discuss the weekend's sport, but by that time some of it's already started. It's obviously not going to get a big audience in the morning but that's always going to be the case, and presumably it has value because it's repeated and repackaged umpteen times. Looks a pretty cheap show to make as well. It's basically an extended trailer for the rest of the ouput.

I can't imagine it's a full-time move which is what makes this seeming one-off relocation so baffling. The good news is that the repeat of Baker and Kelly is on before the Premier League match on Saturday instead so that might get some more viewers, because it's ace.

Quite interesting what they've done with Beyond the Octagon tonight, not sure if it's just a one-off move with London coming up, or a permanent thing (tuned in having missed the first 10 or 15 minutes, so they might have covered that already).

They usually present it sat round a desk like most of the studio shows, this week though they're on chairs inside a model octagon with a studio audience around them, and Gareth Davies is doing interviews in a sort of upstairs area overlooking the main studio.

BTSP is at 3pm for the next two Saturdays (at least, the schedules aren't available any further yet). I like it too, something different and does feature a huge variety of different sports. Hopefully it's just on a short move and will be back as normal soon.

Do we have an exact number in terms of how the Sports Panel is doing? Obviously not very well but are we talking 10,000? Or worse? It was always going to be tough to get consistent audience for the spin off shows, very difficult to do something new in the sport genre away from actual live match/event coverage and find an audience for it.

I watched it a good bit of BTSP at the start but less so in recent weeks (despite Lovejoy rather than because of him!) - hard to be invested in it when it kind of feels like BT aren't going to keep it around for long.

Its because of the UFC being in London this weekend.
We've got Caroline pearce again presenting it too
They have said it will be at the event, not the studio, but still, its going to be hell, so, i won't be watching it on BT.....

On the official BTSP twitter page, its advertising Saturday's show as being in the afternoon and judging by the way it is presented, it looks like a more permanent change rather than a temporary one. At the top of the page it states "Saturday, 15:00, BT Sport 1) which suggests its left the morning slot.

I really do feel that BT need their heads banged together because this is a morning style show. Surely, with people at football stadiums, or watching Soccer Saturday, it is going to be battered from pillar to post. Not only this, but what the hell will happen to the rugby. Following on from a Premier League match it was consistently reaching viewing figures of over 100,000.

Yeah, it's a strange decision. Maybe they think following directly after the midday football will get the show more viewers, since the 3pm timeslot seems to get a boost from the football no matter what's shown.

Or perhaps it moved for a week only and they have changed the picture to make sure that people know of the time change?

Agreed though, it will get battered by Soccer Saturday. Silly to move it

Could BTSP Cover reports from the 3pm Premier League Fixtures. I no they couldn't report from the FL games cause they haven't got the rights, and as BR/ITV don't allow Sky to cover FA Cup games,

This is a fair point. I just saw that the European rugby games were on in a few weeks (not a big Rugby fan) but one of the games I'm sure was scheduled for 3.00pm on Saturday, straight after Chelsea v Arsenal, on BTS1. If this is the case - to make people more aware of their show - it is an understandable idea. I really do hope this is the case because the chances are a show I liked to watch in the morning I won't be able to see now because of the time change,

Did anyone see the BTSP episode at 3.00pm?

Do you think it will get a significant ratings boost?

How did it compare - in that slot - to the morning slot?

My answers to those 3 questions ...

1. As it's now 17 hours after the show started and no-one's commented about it on here, someone might have seen it but probably very few did so.

2. No ... live sport like a rugby match straight after the 12.45 Premier League game can keep more viewers interested than a chat show (especially one involving the wretched Tim Lovejoy) as there were plenty of other live options on other channels including two "free-to-air" choices thanks to Ireland-Italy rugby union and Channel-4 Racing.

3. Don't know because I've never watched it in either slot (see answer 2 with regard to one of its presenters).

My conclusion ...

Far from trying to give it a ratings boost, BT Sport are now just throwing away this show into whatever time-slot needs filling on a Saturday as that's its only remaining use.

Meanwhile, the BT management look forward to the day its presenters' contracts run out (one in particular) so they never have to bother with the show again.

If it had just one well-established show to compete against on a Saturday-morning, it would have found it tough ... but it was actually up against two because as well as Soccer-AM, one of BT Sport's own presenters Danny Baker has his multi-award winning couple of hours on BBC Radio 5 Live.

There can't be a much more damning view of the BT Sports Panel than its management preferring yesterday between 10.45 & 11.00 to be showing a repeat of their Baker & Kelly show from the previous evening despite knowing full well that was also the final 15 minutes of Danny's 5-Live programme !!

Given most broadcasting folk are well aware of the damage Tim Lovejoy did to 5th Gear's ratings a few years ago when someone inexplicably decided he was the ideal presenter to revamp that show, it beggars belief that with enough money available to sign-up whoever they wanted, someone at BT Sport reckoned he was worth hiring ... Lovejoy's agent must be incredibly good at covering up his client's poison.

If you haven't yet seen it, watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwNByA3Cchc

It'll take some beating for tv-moment of 2014 as comedian Jake Yapp (who did a series of these quick summaries of tv-shows for each edition of Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe) does the fastest and most accurate character-assassination of a broadcaster you could ever hope to see,

Probably nothing in it but interesting post on the BT Forums last week regarding La Liga rights and pricing when the Champions League contract kicks in.

The big problem with charging for CL separately is it is under 6 months of the year - one 3 month block and then one 2.5 month block (NB. Exclude final as FTA).

So for much of the time they would be charging for La Liga only and I don't think that is strong enough to sustain a standalone sub.

It would be stronger if they threw in the other European Leagues but even then still doubtful (look at the audiences BT is getting for European Leagues this season) and then there would be the issue that the "main" BT Sport channels would be losing that content.

I wonder how it would work logistically if they started charging, for example, £9 p.m for BT Sport 1 and 2 instead of offering it 'free' with broadband - presumably it would be very difficult in terms of PR/customer relations to add a BT Sport charge to phone/broadband bills when it was previously 'free'.

Therefore, if BT don't think it is financially viable to recoup Champions League costs through the 'free' broadband offer* and can't feasibly start charging for something that was previously 'free', then a standalone CL offering might be the only way to go? Although considering you would end up with something like a Prem Plus season ticket, I'm not convinced that would be the best strategy.

*obviously there is also the revenue from paying subscribers on Sky/VM who don't have BT Broadband. Presumably these numbers will increase somewhat when the CL deal kicks in.

Slight wildcard might be that BT only make the full Champions League offering (i.e. their equivalent of Sky's current red button service) exclusive to BTTV - effectively use the CL to push the (currently small) BTTV base in the same way they have used the PL to prop up/boost/ring fence the BT Broadband base.

BT Sport isn't going to remain totally 'free' with broadband forever. Most likey when they add the CL to their offering, then say at that point the basic SD sports channels cost is £14pm, so BT will be giving a £5 reduction if you take broadband and thus charge the £9 that's mentioned. Going forward, there will still be a need for some kind of 'hook' linked to their broadband, as that's the whole point of their sports channels strategy, but just not as generous as their sports channels mature and gains more rights.
popeye13

If BT do (BRainlessly) go down the route of separately charging for UCL games, they will find themselves with alot of money spent and not anything close to enough subscribers...
It would be madness business sense to even try and i think they know it...
But the free BT Sport with BB will come to an end, it has to, its way to costly.
