With their MotoGP coverage there is what I would call a fail. Apparently there is not the room for any repeats of the Practice or Qualifying sessions on any of the BT Sport channels. Compared with last year when Eurosport would reshow the on-track action 2-3 times each day (and the beeb may have rerun sessions too). Compare it with Sky Sports F1 also who also deem it useful to repeat the P1-3 and Q sessions 2-3 times and in full on the Monday (on a dedicated channel, of course, also the beeb might rerun F1 P and Q on their 10 races or at least have them online on the BBC Player for 7 days).

Despite what BT are claiming they are not showing an unprecedented amount of live action as I understand it interpreting what they are saying before it all starts as it amounts to the same as the BBC/Eurosport showed previously.

Here's the Qatar schedule how it appeared on BBC/Eurosport 4th-7th April 2013 (towards 20 hours live coverage):

Fair point which is why I committed to the paid BT TV service so I could record and watch all the sessions at my convenience. Formerly I paid Eurosport for their online service which committed me to watching the coverage within three hours of it being broadcast which was often tricky. And it is not yet clear what coverage will be available on their catch up service which admittedly so far seems a bit patchy and random.

My bad. I had forgotten that I had previously hidden all the BT HD channels when I first installed the box so only had those more recently added. Restored all hidden channels today and there they all were. So no idea at what point my subscription actually became active other than that I was able to access Eurosport HD more or less straightaway so now thinking that the same was true for them all.

Now for the painful process of rehiding the dross ...

Or just get used to using the HD channel filter on the EPG when doing my weekly timer check and set.

Quickly typed: on the issue of scheduling any Practice and Q repeats I was tweeting with Simon Head, Digital Producer of MotoGP for BT Sport.
"@simonhead
Digital Producer (@btsportmotogp / @btsportufc) + UFC Editor, BT Sport."

Until he blocked me (when the session started today). (*actually it appeared he blocked me but he may have and then not as now I am unblocked so not so clear but that's an aside)

I thought the issue could be explained by limited space on the channels and commitments to other live sport however there is only a wta match live on the channel between now and tomorrow 3pm so plenty of time to turn around a 2 or 3 hours package from Day 1.

Now I think they just can't be bothered or perhaps only showing the sessions once means it focusses the viewing figures or something more on lines like that.

Whatever the reason surely putting it all behind a pay wall aside h/lights Mon night and having zero repeats of Practice and Q can't be in the best interest of those who follow the sport or lending to the idea that someone at a loss in the daytime new to the sport might get drawn in like by the previous much more generous exposure?

Practise has been behind a paywall for years?

Yes, it has. Not sure do you mean that I wrote it hasn't? Because I'm going to say I haven't! Because I haven't!

That practice, qualifying and live racing are now all behind a paywall (whereas previously qualifying and live racing was not) and that there are no repeats of practice or qualifying (whereas previously there were).

But the main thrust of my post(s) was a) that second or third chances to catch the P and Q sessions have now been lost immaterial of which or what were previously pay tv or FTA and b) that subsequently the channels being full of live sport doesn't stand to reason as to why there are no repeats of P and Q as there is 2 hours of live sport scheduled between 8pm tonight and 3pm tomorrow on BT Sport 2!

Interesting that people have had this feedback in regards to the lack of repeats of action from the Moto GP. I've had the same gripe for the past 6/7 months with their European football coverage.

Last year ESPN would show repeats of several games but this year BT have made a point of not doing this for the vast majority of their matches and the scant number they do repeat they constantly repeat...

What I found as a common thread is that after the acquisition of the relevant sports rights amidst much self congratulation and hype the fans overall are left with a sense that actually coverage isn't really quite as good as it previously was.

I don't really get this argument in the days of PVRs. If you wanted to watch it but unable to do so live, surely you would record it? I never thought we'd hear complaints that there weren't enough repeats on TV.

The races look like they are repeated gomezz and he tweeted that "Race replays will be available online and on app for BT customers". However the @btsportmotogp account did tweet today that people who have the channel as subscription only (£12/£15 per month) via Sky platform do not have access to the BT Sport website/app to view using a BT ID which is incorrect as you can access it after you sign up I believe.

What if, while it was on, you could do neither?
What it means is that you simply miss it.
Whereas before with MotoGP there were chances to either watch or record live or later on a repeat that night, the following morning and even midway through the next day before the next day's Practice or Qualifying. It's about convenience. Or luxury of choice (which it could be suggested might be expected as part of a "Premium" service claiming "Our coverage will be more comprehensive than anything we've had in the UK before." No, repeats do not equal comprehensive but they could certainly be incorporated and considered to be a part of any coverage. As posted above it is not as if the channels were so chock full of live sport in this instance. And as I posted above they are not truly delivering more live track action as it happens. In fact if they dont show race warm up (as Eurosport did on delay) they could even end up showing less bikes on track than previous!. Their claims about their coverage currently look decidely deceptive. Or marketted by people who have never considered MotoGP before (which doesn't look the way so it is deception/spin in that case).

If they don't want to repeat content then why repeat "MotoGP Tonight" 6 times next week?! Who is asking for 6 or 7 chances to watch that? Compare it now to F1 now in terms of exposure of on track action on tv channels. How outstanding F1 coverage looks now with multiple chances to catch every session in full (and yes even more than one go at a chance to record on the PVR!). MotoGP-wise I can't imagine DORNA insist there be zero repeats of P and Q or hasn't allowed it (although who knows as it might make the motogp.com online video streaming subscription look appealing?)?
There are indeed many repeats on BT but yet not of action so much but their chit chat shows or mysteriously just the one game of football repeated 4-5 times over and over. It is almost like as if they can't be bothered to log and turnaround a transmission to be rerun and are making a point of it as I imply from wal28's post about European football coverage above. Who knows how many hours British Eurosport logged rerunning the bikes on track sessions but it was a lot and now it is not. In fact as far as practice and qualification goes it is now nought (zero).

Hi everyone,

My Mum is thinking about getting BT Infinity & when I checked out the package she is considering, I noticed that she would get the BT Sport Online & access to the BT Sport App. Now my Mum has no interest in sports but has said that I could use her details to log in on my tablet & computer. I was wondering if this was possible, or do you have to have a BT Internet connection, to access the the stream, or can it be done from any location away from home. I'm not really concerned if it is dodgy or not, am just wondering if technically it can be done, much like Sky Go.

Many thanks

Yes, you'll be fine.
My dad uses my details to watch it on his tablet.

BIB
When you subscribe to BT Sport on a Sky box, if done online, you automatically get a BT ID to check your account (Bills, when they will be taken from account etc) and with that, you can login to BTSPORT.com aswell and watch the channels online aswell as the catchup content they have on there.
(Not sure about if you sign up over the phone, but id imagine its easy enough)

Regarding a Football game like Chelsea v Arsenal, do the ratings plummet when a team is losing by a wide margin, player sent off?
Or do Armchair fans stay the course, and see the game out?

I wouldn't assume so. Liverpool trounced Arsenal 5-1 in February and the match average was over 900,000 and the best match average in that slot. My best match average estimate would be 850,000 at the very least. I could easily see the game passing the 900,000 mark.

So BT have now shown Arsenal's away matches against the top three. In the case of Liverpool and today the spectacle was over inside 10 minutes. And what you get is freakish scorelines: 6-3, 5-1, 6-0.

Not exactly great viewing for the neutrals, nor when you're hyping Arsenal up to be something they're not (ie: title contenders).

It was at least more interesting than the reverse fixture in December. BT have had some cracking games this season, and at least for these Arsenal games there's been plenty of goals.

My pick for the title has been Liverpool since Suarez came back. Everyone discounted them after they lost twice in a row after Christmas but they were two of the hardest fixtures of the season and they actually played well despite losing. Liverpool also had by far the easiest second half of the season out of the top 4 (they have Chelsea and City still to play but at home).

Chelsea have a super easy run-in from here on out but they've blown some easy games already so you never know. If Liverpool can, for example, beat Chelsea and draw with Manchester City, they'll win the league I reckon. Losing either of those games might make it too tough.
