Do they have any plans for a red button service on sky?
Not in the near future. We will be running interactive services on Youview though.

I was very impressed by the French football season preview. Philippe Auclair and Julien Laurens were in the studio along with Matt Spiro, some bookmaker, and an Opta statistician.

They got Leonardo on the phone, too.

It was quite a step up from ESPN's coverage in recent seasons.

Of course, it seems as if we'll only see analysts like this for the Sunday Night European Football show, but I was pleased they made the effort.

I still think they should wheel one or two of these guys out for a bumper weekly highlights show encompassing all of their European football, but this looks a promising start.

Archie.
There will be a 2 hour midweek European football review show. That's in addition to separate highlights shows for each of the main European leagues (presumably they are the world feed goal shows ESPN had last season). So I would imagine the 2 hour show would be along the lines of what you want.

Who is better, in your opinion?
Valid question - and not one I've got a definitive answer to either!

What I don't like about Jake is that he comes across as too eager and I find him to be quite tacky at times. He comes across to me as nothing more than a BT poster boy who so far has appeared to be more inclined to help BT sell broadband subs as opposed to mastering the art of his craft. I find his manner quite nauseating. I also don't associate Jake with football, but that's not a major issue as that will come over time.

There is middle ground but Jake appears to have been sucked into the machine from the off. There will be many different takes on it but that's just my view.

Ondemand facility will be up and running at by the end of the year at the very latest. That's all I know.
They have lots of ideas for the app and they will apparently take around 3 years to implement. I can't tell you what these are though.
By "on demand" do you mean BT Sport's 7-day online catchup service (via the BT Sport online player)? I don't have BT Sport but does this mean that currently their catch up service is not available (and won't be until the end of the year)?

Is it the case that the "on demand" via Sky box option is a definite no-no for BT Sport (obviously ESPN weren't included either as with British Eurosport currently) - or are they in anyway planning future inclusion in that? (I would doubt it - also I hope my Qs aren't confusing and that you are able to answer)

He told me that he was at the BBC and was planning on staying there years because he eventually wanted Linekar's job as football anchor, but then this come up and he saw it as too good an opportunity to waste.
His parents weren't too happy as they see the BBC as an institution but he said he had to do what was best for his career and his family.
But of inside info for ya
Some good inside info there

Jake has previously said he will continue working for the BBC so his BT contract is not exclusive, In this blog, he also emphasises how his UK-based BT Sport role will fit better with his new family commitments than the global F1 position. I found his early tweets a bit gushing but like him on screen.

He is paid by BT sport, Of course he will promote them. Just as every sky sports employee tweeted their "excitement" when the PL fixtures were released.

Jake is absolutely perfect for it. He draws people in with his enthusiasm. People like Gary Lineker look like stuffy old dinosaurs by comparison now.

At least BT are trying a new presenting style. Sky sports kept Keys and Gray for 20 years and would have had them longer.

I don't think there was really anyone else BT could go for.

Yeah the 7 day catch up service will be available on the app and online account only as far as I have been told. I can not see BT offering it to the sky tv platform. Sky subscribers will still be able to catch up 7 days online though.
Who knows in the future though? They may well offer it, but we haven't been told. I imagine they are still making decisions etc as let's face it, everything about this venture is still in the early stages.

That's right, he doesn't have a golden handcuffs deal but is the majority of his time will be spent at BTSport. Especially for the time being. Much more suited to his family life having a little girl.

He has done the right thing IMO.

Anyway if BT went tits up it isn't like the BBC wouldn't have him back. He is now pretty much the main anchor for an entire sports channel. And becoming a lot better known.

I think he is miles better than lineker.

Jake Humphrey is currently one of the best television presenters in the UK, if not in Europe. How BT have managed to secure such talent im unsure but it is a huge coup.
Nah you are having a laugh
no time for him smug and average

Will sky sports introduce the picture in picture feature this season and maybe other things like BT are doing? Especially with the ex ref Mark Halsey in commentary?

Picture in Picture is useful in some situations, however you may have to compromise your main picture to allow you to do it, so you don't cut of any action, where it may be better to do it as a replay.

Dermot Gallagher has been Sky's referee representative, and I believe it is the PGMO that allocate former referees to the TV channels.

Sky haven't announced whether they will bring a referee into their presentation, but it is a similar concept to how the US networks present their NFL coverage, with former head of NFL Officiating Mike Pereira regularly being called to provide assessment of rulings on the field on Fox Sports.

No. There is a distinct difference between being employed by a company and going above and beyond the call of duty in a sickening manner.

Valid point re the Sky tweets but that's literally all they did - propaganda. Jake does it on an almost daily basis.

I'm actually looking forward to watching Keys & Gray this season on Al Jazeera more so than I am with the thought of watching Jake on BT Sport.

And no offence intended here - but for somebody who occasionally drops in to the discussion that they have both Sky and BT and has no preference between them, you're 'doing a Jake' and are beginning to sound like a BT press release. Everything anybody says against BT on here, you pop up in their defence saying how you think it's good. As soon as I see a negative BT opinion, I know for a fact that you will be around soon to combat it.

Not sure if others have the same observations but that's just something that I've picked up on recently...

That'll do me if it is before the start of the new MotoGP season.

Just last night I posted that Sky's on demand service is far superior to BT's.

I have no bias towards BT. I only joined them to get the sports channels with broadband.

I disagree with you on Jake. There is no need to make that personal and turn it into a slky vs BT debate.

It's not personal. It's a general observation.

I myself commented this morning how I think BT's on-screen graphics are excellent - I think they're genuinely top notch. Looks extremely professional and on the ball (no pun intended!).

However... re Jake... we'll have to agree to disagree

Correct. Bt intends to have it up and running by the end of the year as long as there are no complications preventing this from happening.

There's also a BT Sport section on the BT Vision player, although it's a bit of a random assortment and very lacking at the moment.

Ooh I hope you don't see me that way mate? I know I work for them but I hope I am balanced; I do try to sit on the fence and I will knock a company (including BT) if they deserve it but I will give merit to any company that I think deserves it too.

Any ideas about what kind of viewing figures BT would consider poor, decent and great for their first Premier League game?
