UFC is a classic example of something that generates far, far, more noise on internet forums compared to the actual level of interest in it across the whole population.”

Looking at the figures though their non suprising. We don't have any for the actual 163 US PPV Live feed yet. That's the key one. The other's are blatant filler that have already aired in the weeks building up.

The picture in picture box whilst being useful at times is being way way over utilised and over the top. They are zooming in on players and individuals for no reason at times it all stinks a bit of "look at what we are doing differently" Calm down BT!

The broadcasting rights to show Spain's La Liga in the UK rest with BT Sport's rival Sky. But a BT spokesperson confirmed Bale would continue to act as an ambassador its sports channel even if it could not show its star in action. “Obviously Gareth Bale is still a Tottenham player, but if he were to leave he would still be a BT Ambassador and will feature in our marketing going forward,” they told The Drum.”

What a strange decision.

Maybe BT will bid for the spanish league next time it is up.

Worth noting that regularly over on Sky that WWE tends to get 10k 'live' viewers but then timeshifts to over 100k for Raw and the monthly pay-per-view events.

A brief look on ESPN on BARB shows anywhere between 20k and 50k for UFC.

It's clearly worded in such a way that it doesn't leave any doubt in my mind that they're showing 380 live matches and in HD too - that's precisely how I read that.

I wouldn't say Gary is unbiased when it comes to England but for league football, sure. They tend to spend more time showing and talking about the larger clubs but that's what all highlights shows do.

I notice at half time they are just doing standard analysis of Walcott;s goal, on a screen with graphics.

Why aren't they utilising this huge fibre optic ptich?

I must admit I wish Jake would stop saying back in a few seconds when it comes to a break as its more like 5 mins so it would be better if he said back in 5 or back after the adds etc. Not back in a few seconds.

Why are Bt using Silverlight for their online player?

They parted company with Microsoft for the vision box software and went with Linux.

Now they are excluding people with Linux from watching it on their PCs.

Any chromebooks won't play it either.

OK, thanks - fair enough - though of course BTS isn't yet in anything like the same number of homes as ESPN was.

Richard is (as always!) correct.

HOWEVER I fully understand what you, promo-only, mean. Because why on earth would someone publicise that they have the rights if they weren't going to show them? The statement was made with the clear intention of making potential customers think that all 380 games would be shown live.

Wow, I wasn't expecting them to use Silverlight. Terrible decision - no cross-platform support and, actually, Silverlight is just poor at video. Impossible to get smooth video output even if the frame rate and refresh rate match, much like Flash.

I wonder if it's at least 25/50 fps rather than the 30 fps that Sky uses? Can't tell on my laptop. The image quality is certainly very good but the motion quality is crap, as expected.

Arsenal are so poor. A loss and a draw in the mini tournament at their own stadium against not particularly good opposition.

Dreadful. They will be lucky to get near the top 4 this season.

Good game though and I have enjoyed all the coverage. The use of the ref in commentary is a good addition.

Watched the BTSP (BT Sports Panel) to see what it was like - it was actually pretty good. Informal, relaxed and very funny in places. Having Ian Wright is always good - he's always value for money. Matt Dawson was very good too (esp when he got beaten up by a girl in a UFC feature). Worth checking out.

Because of the DRM requirements Silverlight provides.
Agreed though, it is a s*** player.

Nothing to do with the PGMO.

They just showed Paul Dempsey rehearsing for the Bundesliga Preview programme on BT Sport 1 - he's a good addition, another v.solid presenter.

Sky really has gone absolutely ballistic with its newspaper advertising.

The Sunday Times, Sunday Telegraph, The Times yesterday (plus presumably many other papers?) all have full double facing page adverts for Sky Sports:

Left hand page: PL - "Sky Sports has 116 PL games, BT has 38". Then all Sky's games to end of November are listed in 4 monthly columns.

Right hand page: FL - "Sky Sports has 90 FL games, BT has none". Then again all Sky's games listed in monthly columns.

Must be costing a fair bit though I guess loose change in the overall scheme of things.

Nice to see Mark Langdon on television after his good work on the radio. I like this line-up with an ex-player, a European football expert, Rafa, someone from Opta and Langdon (who writes for the Racing Post). A welcome change from the tired formula of ex-players trotting out lazy clichés, which are not backed up by research and/or reality!

My aunt tried to get the online player for free being a BT Broadband customer but it wouldn't let her saying she didn't have a BT Phone line. I thought you could get free BT Sport with just BT Broadband?

Reading around online, all the people who seem to be interested in those leagues also think they'll have access to 380 live matches each season. In this case, I would have expected them to say 'up to 380 live matches' at least then, it covers them for not showing them all even though they own the rights to do so. Stating '380 live matches per season delivered in HD' is very sly if they have no intention of doing so because that leaves people with only one logical thought!

Obviously the numbers of interested people will be minimal but it's still underhand!
