Just to give my slant on the whole CL coverage thing, I think Humphrey and Richardson should cover the main games with Jake doing BTS1 game om tuesday and James the BTS1 game on Wednesday. Commentary from Ian Darke and Andy Gray and Darren Flethcher and Owen Hargreaves (I thought he was quite good in the role last season). Europa League with Des Kelly and Paul Dempsey. Commentary from Derek Rae an Stewart Robson and Peter Drury and Jim Beglin.
Only my opinion remember.

Not a bad line up to be honest as long as the games are live I dont mind. Personnally I dont mind Adrian Chiles but I know I am in a Minority . But I dont think he would be right for BT so that is why I didnt suggest him

As far as commentators goes they will need a whole host of commentators during the qualifying rounds, much like Sky now and as far as the Europa Cup goes well that remains to be seen, perhaps they will use the World feed comms? that will be an interesting one.

If Ian Darke and Darren Fletcher remain lead commentators and BT use them for their coverage I can see one getting a big final each, but I doubt both will be heard on both competitions during the qualifying and probably knock out stages.
Same for Derek Rae as well as I would of thought he would cover any Scottish teams in the Champion's League.

Peter Drury would probably figure as well as may Brotherton and Pearce although saying that none of them have been heard on BT so far this season.

As for Adrian Chiles, not a chance infact I would give Richard Keys more chance!

They will use freelancers infact BT might even use Clive Tyldesley as ITV will only need him every few months for the England games. Touch wood though that BT dont bring Sam matterface

Why would they want to use Tyldesley?

No way would he play second fiddle to the likes of Darke and Fletcher and im sure he would have an exclusive contract to ITV.

Tyldsley contract will be up, presumably at the end of the season. I very much doubt itv will have him exclusive for eng games only and not allowed to do anything else on another channell

He might end up being exclusive for ITV Eng games and work for foreign channels

This is a discussion thread for BT Sport and STV Viewer was posting his opinion on what commentary may be used by BT when they have the UCL.
He actually makes some good points, so can you pack it in and let this thread carry on on topic please?!

I would hope BT avoid him like the plague.
He is a very biased commentator, screams his way through a goal like a kid in a sweet shop being told no...

id like Darke, Fletcher and maybe a steal from Sky, like Bill Leslie, who i think is a very under-used and underrated commentator.
Alongside Derek Rae who they already have

On the subject of presenters, what happened to Mark Bolton? I always used to think he was quite good on Revista, then he left Sky and I haven't seen him presenting anywhere since.

Apparently, he left under a cloud and no one has touched him since.
Thought to highly of himself by all accounts, hard to work with and very demanding.....

Shame. Always liked him but didn't know about the behind the scenes stuff, would make sense as to why he hasn't appeared anywhere else as he did seem to be a good presenter.

I'm not sure if this is fact. He left as his contract had expired. He currently works for PL TV as host and touch line reporter. He was a charismatic, knowledgable and interesting host. The opposite of his replacement Scott Minto.

BT could do a lot worse than hire Mark for European league football, perhaps taking over from Dempsey (so he can concentrate on boxing and SportsHub) or Will Perry.

It will be interesting to see how the major finals are split between Darke/Fletcher once BT get Champions League/Europa League. Ideally I'd go FA Cup and Champions League final to Darke and Europa League to Fletcher but I wouldn't be surprised if Fletcher gets either the FA Cup or Champions League final.

I wouldn't completely rule out Tyldesley from doing some Champions League for BT - the main question might be if BT would want him. But BT have certainly shown they're happy to share broadcasters with other channels. It would be a drastic reduction in live games for Tyldesley otherwise, though presumably he'll still continue to be heard on ITV's highlight shows in Europe. I wonder if ITV might lend Tyldesley to BT for the Champions League and use BT's commentaries like they do for the FA Cup?

FA Cup final maybe but even at this stage I would of thought Darke would get the Champion's League and Fletcher the Europa Final that's if of course they don't get another big name in to share it about and I think that's quite possible.

As far as Tyldesley goes........PLEASE NO!!

Agreed. Can't stand Tyldesley.

I see Owen is on SportsHub tonight with Des Kelly & Harry Redknapp to review the PL games from the weekend. I'd hope this is the start of BT slowly moving him towards a punditry role rather than co-commentary, but it's more likely to just be them using him on their channels more, given he was also commentating at the weekend.

Not sure where to mention this but more details on the Tender for the ICC Rights.
Quote:
“Online giants Google and Yahoo are both showing interest in covering the live international cricket that has been put out to tender by the ICC.
World cricket’s ruling body have controversially split the live rights for the 50-over World Cup, Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup between television and digital in the next contract, starting in 2015.
This would mean a far greater viewing reach for the sport, especially in India and North America. But the strategy has upset both BT and Sky, who wanted the opportunity to bid for both rights and not have exclusivity diluted by worldwide online availability. ”

Funny enough Sale fails to mention that this way would produce the most amount of money since it allow 2 big indian companies or global companies to bid for the rights.
Recently lots of india cricket rights have gone this way and the money earned from it has increased.

Anyway I am sure SKY/BT could pay for the UK/Europe Digital rights but not the Worldwide right although that might increase the amount they paid for the rights.

Here's what I would like to happen when BT get CL.

PL/FA Cup: Jake Humphrey
FA CUP 2nd Choice: Ray Stubbs

CL Tue: Ray Stubbs from ground on BTS1 James Richardson from studio BTS2
CL Wed: Jake Humphrey from ground on BTS1 James Richardson from studio BTS2
EL: Ray Stubbs from ground on BTS1 James Richardson from studio BTS2

This may be more work than James Richardson wants to take on. If so it might be worth considering bringing Matt Smith in for the EL studio stuff.

Ray Stubbs can continue with his reporter work on PL games.
