If the forum post proves to be accurate I think it's much as expected. A few thoughts:
- I would expect the £4 to apply all year round - or at least continuously throughout the football season. The CL only operates for approx 6 months and I think £24 for the whole season would be too low.
- Presumably there won't be an option of subscribing to the CL only - ie the choice will be A only or A+B. But not B only.
- Even at £48 per year (ie 12 @ £4) they would need 6 million subscribers to cover the £300m CL/EL rights cost. That is obviously way, way, way higher than would be remotely feasible - so the venture will only be profitable if it can boost BT phone/broadband, BT TV and BT Sport to the required extent.
- In terms of BT Sport subs it will be interesting to see the effect of the CL - ie how many extra people will subscribe at £16 for the lot (ie including CL) who don't subscribe today at £12?
- What will happen regarding VM XL customers who currently get BTS free? Will they just have to pay £4 (if they want to) for the CL? The answer to this question will have a big impact on viewing figures for BTS CL games - though as far as the BTS business is concerned it won't have any significant effect.
