Thanks for the intellectual insight mate.
I haven't suggested anything under hand myself and don't think there was anything underhand about it. ![]()

really liked BT sports french football preview show, i hope they give serie a the same treatment!
however the women presenter was horrible! she seemed so nervous and had no clue about football, all she said was "im gonna through this straight over to......." i mean literally she said that line 5-6 times. ![]() (and I genuinely do have it on record for this afternoon!) |

Oh, she's dreadful. That said, I think it's less her fault and more BT's. She's there purely for decorative reasons. She sits on her stool sulking like a teenager having been told that the adults now want her to take part in the conversation. She almost rolls her eyes at the imposition. She's painfully aware that she has nothing to bring to the discussion bar a pout.
To be honest, it's transparently sexist. I can't imagine they'd employ a man to do the same thing. I almost feel sorry for her. Archie. |

Well that's what happened. Hence Sky's majorly over-inflated bid to secure the best packages. Sky have never paid anywhere near £3bn before.
The FA do withhold the right to have multiple rounds of bidding (at least that's what I was told on here) If anybody should be accused of over-inflating the prices, it has to be BT surely. They have paid a small fortune for 38 games each season but they over-inflated the prices themselves! Admittedly though, it was something to had to do in order to prize some 1st picks away from Sky but in hindsight I just don't think it was worth it and they would have been fine without doing so. |

While I think BT have done an excellent job with their new high tech studio the quality of football analysis is pathetic. David James, Steve McManaman and Owen Hargreaves are terribly boring and are a major put off... things just seem a bit too nice and everyone seems to agree with each other.. that's not what happens when a group of lads meet up to discuss football.
I think BT have missed out majorly here to be totally different to sky sports, they should have went down the RTE route of hard hitting, opinionated analysis.... just an example of how RTE do it is this which went out live during the weekend, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7EYe42Lln4 ... Agree or disagree with this man but he has passion and cares deeply for the game, in this case its a amateur game. I would dearly love to see this type of passion being copied in the UK because its too stale and the guests seem to be told what they can and cannot say. Commentator: That looked like a dive - what do you think?" Boring Canadian chap: "It certainly looked like a dive. What do you think Steve?" Steve: Yeah looked like a dive to me. David?" David: Yep. Definite dive." Commentator: "We'll go over to our ref in a minute - after we've debated it further between us for another five minutes." **five minutes later** Commentator: "So ref - what do you think?" Ref: "Yeah it was a dive." |

Archie. however the sexism thing could work both ways possibly? would there be a job there full stop for a non female? saying that as you said she wasnt given a chance to show any presenting skills so who knows what else she could do for BT. |

It's not really a straight comparison against Sky Sports though, as these are premium channels (for most anyway) and for most the BT Sports are free to any BT broadband subscriber (whether interested in sport or not). A better comparison may have been the previous free ESPN channels on VM XL maybe (as I think they had the UFC too, and plenty of football of varying quality!)
I understand the point you are making but I think the analysis in my previous post still makes sense and I'll explain why. Yes, I agree that anyone receiving a channel automatically for free is proportionately much less likely to watch it than someone who is paying for it. Thus, last season, someone paying £10 to subscribe to ESPN on Sky would be much more likely to watch ESPN than someone getting ESPN automatically with VM XL. However the situation with BT Sport is a bit different. Whilst it is "free" for BT broadband customers they don't get it automatically. It's an "opt-in" service. On the BT TV platform there are equipment requirements and the need to take a basic BT TV package. Anyone on the Sky platform already only has to ring-up but they do still have to take that trouble. So far, under 10% of the 6m BT broadband customers have "opted-in" to BT Sport. Because that figure is so low so far I think it's reasonable to assume that those people who have signed up to BT Sport so far for free are likely to be dedicated sports fans. This I think my previous analysis re likely viewing figures stacks up at the moment. If at some point in the future the majority of BT broadband customers are getting BT Sport for free then I agree it would be much more comparable to the VM XL situation. But that isn't the position at the moment. Finally I should say my analysis was only meant to be a broad brush attempt to get a rough feel for likely viewing figures. I wouldn't expect it to be perfect and of course there are other factors also to consider - eg Sky Sports having a higher proportion of viewers interested in other sports whereas BT Sport viewers are likely to skew more heavily towards football. EDIT: Partially dealt with already by derek500 at post 490 - thanks. Quote:
On the viewing figures quoted on here (where it's 0.1% and similar), is that just a percentage of all channels at that time, or of BT sports potential audience (e.g. 0.1% of the 550k)?
I realise that that is not a particularly meaningful % figure for BT Sport (or any premium channel not in all UK homes) but that is how TV ratings are reported. |

I don't think we can say this for sure. People have stated it on this forum but no one has been able to substantiate this theory.
The PL made no announcement as to what the position was on the first round of bidding. There was the odd bit of speculation in the press but nothing that can be taken as remotely strong enough to rely upon. It's also worth noting that in the 2007/10 and the 2010/13 auctions the PL did announce which packages were awarded after the 1st round of bidding. But they made no such announcement for 2013/16. |

Appart from the first evening when I got alot of buffering, its been ok since then and working well. I would only use it on a regular basis when I'm away from home, as I'll use my TV when I'm at home.

You would think so wouldn't you? As that's how auctions work. Otherwise what would be the point in other bidders if Sky are always going to win the best packages anyway?
I would think it would be against competition laws for them to be able to do it. BT have out bided Sky in the first round, so come on Sky we will have a second round and if you up your bid we will give the packages to you? |

You can only get ESPN on the BT Vision box if you have Infinity. Otherwise, you just get BT Sport 1 & 2 on the Vision box and all three on the app. This is because BT only has two permanent LCNs on DTT at the moment - 58 & 59. It does have 57 at the moment as a temporary channel but this is likely to end some time this month.

The remote control is like a brick LOL How many different computers can you have the app on? IE laptop, tablet, phone ect and can they be running at the same time? |

But they made no such announcement for 2013/16. But since BT were a new partner the PL didn't go public with this information as they wished to wait for the official annoucement once all bidding was complete. It would make sense for BT to have one for their bids (for package A and/or G) accepted in the first round if it was clear they were serious players, as this would have resulted in Sky valuing the remaining first pick package(s) even higher. |

A lack of common decency? Jesus, the humanity...
If my team had been shown live on BT Sport and I was avoiding the result, the last thing I'd think to do is open a thread about BT Sport. How do I know they didn't miss a crucial goal (that I don't want to know about) or cut away during the post-match celebration (that I don't want to know about)? Or should people not bother mentioning that, even though it would kind of be a big deal? I've seen some daft suggestions on here, but not talking about the games being shown in a thread about the broadcaster that's showing them is definitely up there. |

Could this imply that BT (for sure, perhaps Sky as well) were awarded a package after the first round of bidding.

But my over-riding point remains that we just don't know. |
