The Champions League has lots of adverts that need to be shown, how would that work on the BBC???
But the BBC would be buying the games from BT not UEFA

Still has to comply with the UEFA mandates of sponsorship etc.
And BT would need permission from UEFA to sub-licence the games to the BBC
AND, does the BBC have the money!?

This may have already been mentioned in the thread, but I watched the Villa-West brom match last night, and lost count of the number of times BT showed multiple replays, player/coach reaction shots, or something other than the live action while play was going on. A couple of times one could hear the crowd in the background getting excited at some development in play, but viewers had no idea what it was, because BT were showing something else. It's as though the director had never been to a football match before, and thought the TV audience would be more interested in whatever faces Tim Sherwood was pulling, or had been pulling a few moments earlier, as opposed to the actual match they had tuned in for. Other channels do the same on occasion, but BT seem to be about as bad as anyone. Truly bizarre.

The penalty last night -
BT BOX onscreen showing Sherwood covering alot of the area and even took off screen a graphic showing where the last penalties went FOR the BT BOX after the graphic was onscreen for less than half a second.
I was a massive champion of BT football but its like they're going deliberately backwards after reading what is pissing off the viewer.
Im actually dreading what the UCL is going to look like!
And if UEFA are watching BT's PL coverage, im willing to bet they are too!!

To be fair, they were advertising that they were showing highlights of the game again because of demand and also to blow their own horns at showing the Bradford FA Cup tie this weekend free on a Sky box and BTSPORT.com

Got the game on mute to avoid Owen's commentary so didn't get the context.

Do BT Sport have they're own cameras and cameramen for football or do they take what they're given?

For the Premier League, its provided by a production company called Sunset + Vine who produce to coverage FOR BT.
They're going to produce their own coverage for the UCL when they their rights kick in next season.
Sunset + Vine also does The FA Cup coverage for BT along with the UEL and Scottish Football plus produces the European Football Show too

I think their match coverage is a bit better than the usual fare from BBC or Sky. They must use a few extra cameras or something.

UEFA has very strict rules about how its games are covered. So there won't be any use of the BT Box during Champions League games.

It's rare that I like UEFA but that's great! Hate that box

I know UEFA are very strict on what can and cannot be used and where things can and cannot be placed on screen, but i just know BT will try something gimmicky like they have OCD and cannot help themselves.
But yes, for once, i like that UEFA are such control freaks LOL
It will keep the nonsense to a minimum

Was there really that much demand to show the match again?! It happened over a month ago and has been covered by plenty of media outlets and I'm sure the highlights are on FA Website too!

I can understand showing it the weekend before a big cup weekend but the way they promoted it was very strange! Can't remember the last time I saw highlights of a (old) match promoted so heavily during a live game?

I think its BT being BT and trying to be 'different' while jumping on the Bradford bandwagon at the same time.
The fact they have the game this weekend live and free is a big sign they're going for the bandwagon drivers seat.

Just going back to the 2016-19 PL rights, I had a look at the ratings BT have got for their PL and FA Cup games this season to see whether the 12:45 kick offs are holding them back in terms of getting audiences close to their potential. It was very interesting to see the kind of ratings BT got for Sat 17:30, Sun 16:00 and midweek games for what at times looked like relatively mediocre games. In comparison, games like Liverpool v Everton and Tottenham v Arsenal were massively hampered by the 12:45 kick offs.

From the ratings for this season it's safe to assume that had some of their better looking PL games been available at 17:30 that they'd have got far better ratings, and maybe upwards of a million on several occasions. Also, for the money involved the FA Cup has been a great catch for BT in terms of ratings. The opportunity for them to show games at 17:30 Sat and 16:00 Sun has allowed them to realise what their potential audience could be if they had better timeslots. Hence, the deal from 2016 will be a vast improvement for them IMO.

2014-15 Top Rated PL and FA Cup games on BT (up to w/e Feb 22) in 000
1,255 - Jan 1 - 17:30 - PL - Tottenham v Chelsea
1,018 - Feb 10 - 20:00 - PL - Liverpool v Tottenham

926 - Jan 4 - 15:30 - FAC3 - Yeovil v Man United

834 - Dec 26 - 15:00 - PL - Man United v Newcastle
818 - Aug 16 - 12:45 - PL Man United v Swansea
788 - Feb 4 - 20:00 - FAC4 Rep - Bolton v Liverpool

They say 'far in excess,' but this depends on whether current rights deal is European and premiership v premiership or premiership v premiership.

A large part of £152m was on Euro games. If bt have paid over £152m as inferred then significant increase (as rights premiership only)

If premiership moves from 12 to 14 teams then bigger deal required for clubs to get the same.

I think article is unclear - I think all we can infer is they are paying much more for the Premiership than before - I don't think we can actually be sure they are necessarily paying more than £152m.

Current deal was reported to be:

Premiership - £88m (4 @ £22m)
Europe - £84m (3 @ £21.33m) (NB. Original - pre new competition)

So to pay over £152m for Premiership only would be an increase of at least 73% - but I don't think that is necessarily the case - wording of article is potentially misleading - all it's really saying is BT is paying a significant increase - but the article doesn't make clear the base figure is only £88m.

Would premiership rugby have approached SKY over new rights? Or give BT exclusive deal

1 FA Cup Sun 15.15 860

2 Premier League Wed 756

3 Premier League Tue 444

4 FA Cup Sat 12.00 389

Very good figures again for their Sun game but what awful figures for their Free to Air or Bradford v Reading.....and people wondered why BBC didn't choose this game.

Chelsea v Everton did pretty well aswell.

Announced: a tie-up between BT Sport and BBC Two for the Clare Balding Show.

BBC Two has acquired the rights from BT Sport to show the new series of The Clare Balding Show in an innovative new deal, which will see the show screened on both channels.

The new 12-show series starts on 2 April. The weekly hour-long entertainment and sport chat show will air on BT Sport on Thursdays with a half-hour show airing on BBC Two the following evening.

Viewers will see Clare Balding interview the biggest and best of British and international sportsmen and women in a fun, open and relaxed setting. Past guests on the show have included Sir Alex Ferguson, Mike Tyson, Martina Navratilova, Mark Cavendish, Dame Kelly Holmes and Jose Mourinho. It will be filmed at the BT Sport studio in London in front of a live audience who get the chance to ask their heroes and heroines questions.
The show includes an exciting blend of high-profile sporting revelations, humorous banter and topical debates headed by Britain’s most-loved sports presenter.

Clare Balding says: "I'm delighted that The Clare Balding Show will now reach a brand new audience via the BBC following this unprecedented deal. This series provides a rare opportunity for sportsmen and women to reveal their true personalities, away from the pressure of competition."

"Over the last two years we've hosted major sporting names in front of a live audience, we've broken stories, we've laughed and we've asked tough questions. I really hope people will appreciate the relaxed, fun nature of the programme and that it appeals to non-sports-fans as well as committed enthusiasts. I work with a great team at BT and Boomerang and we all love making the series - I hope BBC Two viewers will love it too."

Kim Shillinglaw, controller of BBC Two, says: “I want BBC Two to be great company and who better to spend time with than the wonderful Clare Balding. I'm delighted that her lively discussion programme, with some of the brightest and best sports personalities, is coming to the channel.”

Simon Green, Head of BT Sport, says: “We’re delighted that Clare is back for a new series and that we are teaming up with the BBC again to showcase the fantastic Clare Balding Show. This partnership will enable even more people to enjoy Clare’s passion for tackling the issues that count combined with a wicked sense of humour and is essential viewing for all sport lovers looking for an evening’s entertainment with a twist.”
