I don't think that provision of "red button" matches is as important as some on DS perceive.
mlt11 posted some figures last year that showed Sky's "red button" Champions League matches often rated zero or 1,000:
Quote:
“..... Examples from MD1 this season:
Juventus v Malmo - 1,000
Monaco v Leverkusen - zero
Roma v CSKA Moscow - zero
Porto v Bate Borisov - 1,000
Benfica v Zenit - zero
Galatasaray v Anderlecht - 1,000
Bilbao v Shakhtar - zero
Maribor v Sporting Lisbon - 1,000
.....”

Granted, that a Champions League "red button" service gives BT the opportunity to showcase what it can do, but it's more important that they demonstrate the capabilities of their own tv platform; and indeed that's where I believe that the technology/capacity exists for BT to exceed what Sky delivered, in a cost-effective manner.
Most viewers who want to continue watching Champions League on the Sky platform would be content with a choice of 2 or 3 matches each matchday on the main BT channels, in my view.
BT have been careful not to alienate consumers that prefer to take their tv from Sky, by ensuring that the primary content is available on the Sky platform, but they don't need to replicate everything that they produce for the convenience of Sky TV customers, in my view.
