With BT launching their Champions league drive next week would anyone like to hazard an educated guess as to their pricing for customers on Sky? I'd go for £7.00 additional as a promo

BT's Live Football page has them showing the CONCACAF Gold Cup this year. Given the kick off times I'm not sure why they went for this instead of the Copa America, with all due respect to Premier I can't imagine they have the funds to compete with BT/Sky if they actually want the rights to an event.

Are you incapable of visiting the BT website and going to their live football page?

Looks like they are showing 13 out of 16 group games, and 3 out of 4 quarter finals and both semi finals and final.

Good to see the Emirates Cup is confirmed for BT coverage as well.

Their Summer of football does look particularly strong this year but I do echo what another poster said, surely the Copa America would of been a better buy than the Concacaf?

Will be interesting to see how they preform come the big Under 21 Championship and how they treat it with the likes of pundits and presenters.

I agree totally, the Copa America would've been a better tournament to show.

I do expect BT to show some early rounds of the Champions league and Europa League qualifiers, especially with West Ham starting so early

wonder how they will do 4k as well, and when, if 4k is included in the £5 rise, its not that bad, sky would want £10-15 plus a month for 4k.

I agree that in terms of quality the Copa America is the more attractive proposition out of the two tournaments. Still good to see the Gold Cup being shown as it showcases a different set of footballing talent

On another note; has anyone else been watching the Toulon tournament. There is defnitely a bit of a Test Match Special feel to the whole thing. The games from Aubagne especially with the trams and the trains passing by. All I need is possibly a red bus and some pigeons - my dear old thing!

I have a good source who works for BT and he told me a few months ago that BT need to get some money back so would be charging £5 a month for the CL - that even applies to people who currently get it all free.

Delighted my 4K TV will be able to finally get some UHD on it but another bit of gossip (same source) is that you will need a new BT box to able to get the UHD.

It wont be avaible via the Sky box. They will show all games via the red button - but you cant get it on the Sky box. Just the BT one.

BT want to start edging away from the Sky platform and make it that if you want BT sport you have to get a box from them.

£5 max - only sub cos Southampton are in the Europa league - but last time in 2003 they were knocked out in the first round so may wait if they can get into the group stages (think they will do better than in 2003 as they finished hire in the league and have a more pro euro step with the strawberry haired Dutch maestro)

I think with the most important games being FTA, as well as some games from the earlier rounds, that'll do me for the CL so I won't bother subscribing to it.
It only begins to get interesting from February anyway so there isn't much that I'll miss.

When you say they won't be available via a Sky Box do you mean there will be no 'Red Button' games on Sky or do you just mean that the Red Button games will not be 4k/Ultra HD on Sky?

If you mean that not all Champions League games are available via Sky and they want to charge £5 a month (or in fact any amount) then I doubt I'll renew my Broadband contract for 12 months this time round and I'm sure I won't be the only one give that around 35% of the country can't get BT Infinity so no Sky Red Button service would mean missing Champions League games or having to watch them in inferior quality via the BT Sport website.

I don't think that provision of "red button" matches is as important as some on DS perceive.

mlt11 posted some figures last year that showed Sky's "red button" Champions League matches often rated zero or 1,000:

..... Examples from MD1 this season:

Juventus v Malmo - 1,000
Monaco v Leverkusen - zero
Roma v CSKA Moscow - zero
Porto v Bate Borisov - 1,000
Benfica v Zenit - zero
Galatasaray v Anderlecht - 1,000
Bilbao v Shakhtar - zero
Maribor v Sporting Lisbon - 1,000
.....
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...66084&page=215

Granted, that a Champions League "red button" service gives BT the opportunity to showcase what it can do, but it's more important that they demonstrate the capabilities of their own tv platform; and indeed that's where I believe that the technology/capacity exists for BT to exceed what Sky delivered, in a cost-effective manner.

Most viewers who want to continue watching Champions League on the Sky platform would be content with a choice of 2 or 3 matches each matchday on the main BT channels, in my view.

BT have been careful not to alienate consumers that prefer to take their tv from Sky, by ensuring that the primary content is available on the Sky platform, but they don't need to replicate everything that they produce for the convenience of Sky TV customers, in my view.

BT Broadband customers might no longer get BT Sport for free but will cost an additional £5 per month according to ISP Review. The source seems to be the Daily Mail mind. BT are keeping quiet.

A BT Spokeswoman told ISPreview.co.uk:

“We can’t comment on rumour on speculation. We will be revealing our plans in due course.”

UCL will be on red button via Sky.
BT have been testing it for months and they have multiple streams in said test.
BT Would get ripped apart by pissed off Sky customers if they didn't offer it and BT cannot afford bad PR in their UCL launch.
Now most likely the extra games will be HD only via IPTV, BT TV etc, but thats a decent 'compromise' and means the games are all available to all BT Sport customers, however they get the channels

Not really sure what people expect?

Surely there isn't many around who seriously thought there would be no extra cost after what they spent on the rights? If there are they really are living in cuckoo land.

Just like Sky hiked their prices up after the last prem deal, BT were always going to put theirs up.

I think £5 is a pretty good bet but the bottom line, like most things, no one is forcing any one to purchase it.
