Interesting that Man City v Juventus is picked as the main game ahead of PSV v Man Utd - so Lineker will presumably be with Man City.

I will predict now that the Man Utd game will rate higher.

Incidentally the separate programmes from 7.30pm will obviously assist the BARB programme ratings (rather than if there had been a longer intro).

I also hope that we do actually get ratings - BARB has not yet started reporting a top 10 for BT Europe or BT Showcase - until they do we only get the rating if it makes the day's Digital Top 10.

There was a top 10 for BTS Europe for w/e 16th August (Predictably the Super Cup was top, with 139k, then the Bundesliga with 70k) - but no top 10 was reported for w/e 23rd - I'm not sure why this was as I'm not clued up on how the ratings were done - can channels request not to be reported certain weeks? Or just an issue with the data?

Ah OK - thanks - hadn't looked back at the previous week - that's good news.

No, channels don't make requests like that.

It's a data issue - normally it means there is a problem with the programme logs - ie BARB doesn't have complete info re programme names or start / end times etc.

When this happens BARB report the missing week when they do their amendment cycle - after another 6 weeks.

So in theory we should get a top 10 for BTS Europe for w/e 30th next Monday.

So 2 games per night (Tue & Wed) on a linear channel in HD is the same as Sky no difference really.
Shame they're keeping the goals show for BT TV but ohwell, i'll be watching the games not a goal show so.... (And i suspect many others will too)

It's make sense to have this as their prime pick as this will be broadcast using BT's UHD equipment. I imagine French TV will be responsible for the PSV picture.

You can bet that unless it's a dead rubber the Man U V PSV game will be on BTS Europe and UHD.

I would imagine that, apart from the final perhaps, the UHD games will all be Home legs for English teams. As far as I know there are no other broadcasters in Europe offering UHD.

Have you seen listings for the Europa League?

One site is saying Celtic on BST2 with Liverpool. Spurs on BTS Europe but no word on if anything on Showcase.

Can someone confirm then that there is def no game on BT Sport ESPN HD (or BT Sport 1 HD) on either of the CL match days?

Regarding the BT CL goals show with James Richardson - I still find it very surprising they are going through all the effort of producing live coverage, with pundits and producers etc - and then only showing it on BT TV. I understand the logic but seems a bit of an expensive exclusive. although it will likely also be available to stream via the BT Sport app I'm guessing.

In comparison to the rights fee's a couple of blokes in a room talking over goals as they go in is cheap as chips. Alongside the HD red button games it gives their platform just a little something else/different.

All of the games are now listed on the BT Sport site.

So if you're a Sky subscriber you can't watch highlights/Goals on the night? Is the show repeated on BT Sport?

I agree that the UHD game will be the main game each week... and during the group stages I'd expect it to be whichever Manchester team is at home. I'm sure it is no coincidence that when the Manchester teams are at home on a Tuesday, Liverpool are at home on the Thursday of the same week, allowing them to get a UHD game out of the Europa League too.

Incidentally, it will be Dutch TV covering the PSV home legs.

BeIn Sport did PSG v Barcelona in UHD last season, so we might see some non-British games.

Incorrect.

There is a highlights show on BT Sport Europe at 10pm on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

So how do you think BT will set up with their CL then? No sings of a James Richardson 'goals' show so will he perhaps take over highlights show at ten?
Also, with the preview 6-7.30, could that be Richardson and the EFS team or would it be Likeker and the pundits on the main game.

1st of 12 games on BT sport showcase is meaningless 2nd leg qualifier (United won 1st leg 3-1 so pretty much through)

Then second game on showcase is Roma vs Barcelona

Pretty poor tbh

Tbf it is not in BT's interest to make their 12 free BT Showcase matches as attractive/appealing as ITV's selection has been in previous seasons.

You actually thought they we'e gonna give away the best games for free?!

What it means is that it's very likely that we will get the bare minimum in terms of English teams (1 Chelsea, 1 Arsenal and 1 City group match), and all other games will be all foreign ties unless an English team reaches the final.

We will have to wait and see how it pans out, but it was initially raised that BT would show SF for free.

This seems very unlikely in my opinion that all four ties will be free but if it is true, then that's 5 of the matches (plus final) very late on

I hardly think dinamo Zagreb vs arsenal or even Chelsea vs Maccabi tel aviv are blockbuster matchups or the best games. They are both MD 1

You are right they are not, but they are games that the majority of the UK audience would want to watch on that evening. Therefore it would make sense to have them behind a pay wall to tempt more subscribers.

It's kind of like BT are saying,do you want all the British CL games? Well come and subscribe to us.

Don't get me wrong I would love the big British games free to air as well. But the reality of the situation is that it is unlikely to happen and why should it? BT bought the rights and should use then in a way that brings them maximum revenue which is what any business would do.

TBH there are very few CL group stage matches that *are* anywhere near being blockbusters. It is the nature of the seeding process and the round robin nature of the competition for easy qualification for the top teams. Interest tends to come mostly from banana skin matches.
