Not sure how you can say it will look better when as far as I am aware Sky have not detailed their UHD offer.

The HD picture is inferior on BT due to the resolution. No doubt about that. Perhaps it is a capacity issue their end or they reduced it to allow Infinity users on slower speeds to access the HD channels.

As fibre broadband becomes more of a norm and general speeds increase across the country we might see the resolution increase. Though I wouldn't bank on it.

Also available in HD on BTSport.com and the BTSport App

UHD looks great when they zoom in but the main camera is way too far out.

My thoughts are that I watch the UHD channel version because they show more of the pitch, therefore more players and officials, so I can follow the game more like I could from the stands at the actual match.

Far better to do this IMO than to be able to count blades of grass or see what colour the players' bootlaces are. And the picture on a normal HD TV is sharper than the HD channels on the same match (including anything that Sky TV could show), because of fewer and smaller compression artifacts due to the high bandwidth. It's also a Savage and Owen-free zone.

I like it as it is.

Watching in HD via Sky box I have found the picture not sharp at all - particularly compared with ESPN HD in previous years which seemed Ilya sharp. In fact I have found myself checking I'm watching the HD and not SD channel! But then I came to the same conclusion as the previous poster BT seem to constantly use the long range wide angle view and without focusing in on the action an expanse of green field will look the same in SD, HD or UHD. It is almost like you are in the stadium back of the 3rd tier watching the action. I appreciate some people might prefer that but I'm not one of them.

Liverpool v Sion got 427,000 - almost definitely higher than any of BT's CL games - it didn't clash with any other English teams whereas the audience obviously gets split in the CL (and the goals show also takes some as well).

However even allowing for the above might have expected the Man Utd CL game to get more than 362,000 - we don't have the rating but not in the day's Top 10 so it must be less than 362,000.

Other figures on the whole look pretty poor but I have to say considering it was only match day 2 and in the Europa League that Liverpool figure is pretty good.

Charles Sale reported that Man United v Wolfsburg got a peak of over a million so it would seem bizarre for the average to be that low but I am aware it apparently didn't make the top 10 digital figures.

That's a under statement!

He hasn't a clue, probably doesn't even know what day it is!

There was only a 15 minute intro as BT starts a separate programme at 7.30pm so there is no way the peak could be that much higher.

IF the programme average was 360k (and we don't actually know that) then the match average would be about 425k to 450k and the peak somewhere between 500k and 600k.

But best to wait for the officials - there could be a problem with the overnight top 10 listing.

Obviously sale has wrong information, or overnight is wrong.

Bt may have given sale a peak across all bt outputs?

Anecdotally the bt app is popular. Maybe bt included tv figure and all those logged in via the app.

Peak of 302k for man city would mean hardly anyone watching bt showcase.

I think bt figures more realistic. They are quite good if app not included.

It would indicate lots have paid extra fiver.

I can't for one minute believe the United game got a peak of 1m midweek. Pl games during xmas rarely got that on BT let alone a midweek when there were 7 other games on at the same time.

1m could be the total peak viewing across all 8 BT games but I highly doubt it was for the united game alone.

Got BT Sport lite with broadband today. Says "free" and on the email £13.50 12 month discount. So is it not free after the first year?

If you sign up for another year, it's free for another year. (and so on)

Yes, combined peak of 1m sounds plausible - broken down roughly Man Utd 600k, Man City 300k (BTS2 + Showcase), Goals Show 100k.

By the way where does your 302k figure for Man City come from?

BT Sport will be pleased the peak viewing figure for Manchester United’s midweek Champions League match was just over seven figures at 1.055m. But the other disappointing peak numbers for Arsenal (702,000), Chelsea (452,000) and Manchester City (306,000) should concern BT and UEFA as they are around 25 per cent of last year’s comparable ITV/Sky figures for the tournament

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rug...spitality.html

I should have written 306k.

Liverpool V Everton peaked at over 1.5m on BT two years ago (midweek slot)

As Man Utd and Man City peaks probably occurred at different times, an overall peak of say 1.2m wouldn't be that unbelievable?

I cant see how this reconciles with BARB data though, as if both were correct it would imply that if there was a TV peak of 600k, there must be over 400k watching on app, which seems very unrealistic.

Thanks as always.

But agree that it all remains something of a puzzle - we really need to see the BARB officials.

In addition to what's already been said about the Man Utd figures, I'm surprised the Arsenal peak is so much higher than Chelsea given that Chelsea was the main game - I'm not surprised Arsenal is higher but the size of the difference looks high.

Also agree with you re the app.

Final thought - I just wonder if there is an outside chance that BT has supplied some reach figures - reach is obviously a much higher number than peak.

Looks like BT Showcase is an audience lost.

*Lack of it being a proper channel.

*Not on Sky or cable.

*Not properly advertised.

*No HD.

It's quite sad that so much free sport is being lost am the price of sport these days and lack of access to it without paying big amounts means many generations won't get to watch or want to participate in sport in the future. Doubt UEFA care just like the F1 vanishing off FTA TV.
Mark.

How many times does it need repeated - Showcase exists because BT needed to make the deal palatable to viewers by saying some games would be "free".

They would gain nothing from making it more than an absolute barebones channel.

I really think your point has been addressed comprehensively in a number of other threads, including this one.

Gary McAllister has been offered a different role at Liverpool that doesn't involve first-team duties. That might free him up again for a return to BT's SPFL coverage.
