773k (9.7%) for BT's coverage of Chelsea v Liverpool on Sunday, reports ITV Media.
Underwhelming it has to be said. |

I admit BT Sport PQ is very good via Chromecast but also is NOW TV. What l can't understand is why BT Sport keeps buffering while NOW TV is virtually free of the same symptom!
Does anyone have any clues why this is so? |

Champions League: Matchday 3 Officials
ARS v BAY - 777k DYK v CHE - 170k ![]() CSKA v MU - 521k MC v SEV - 257k Goals Show (Tuesday) - 14,000 Goals Show (Wednesday) - 33,000 Arsenal game obvious stand out, with Man Utd not far behind. The Chelsea rating is unbelievably low, and Man City are not doing better either. Goals show down on both days to new lows. Europa League: Matchday 3 Officials LIV v RUB - 423k AND v TOT - 265k MOL v CEL - 152k All rather underwhelming. |

Underwhelming it has to be said. Can anyone find that post - I've spent ages looking fot it - is it in another thread? If anyone could repost that post it would be helpful - and even better if Igloo_Man has the information maybe expand it to a top 5 or top 10. So I don't think the Chel/Liv rating is in itself a bad rating but what I think it says to me is that BT's ratings seem to have plateaued - there doesn't seem to have been any further step forwards that might have been expected given the addition of CL. As previously posted the purpose of BT acquiring CL is to generate new additional subscribers / viewers to BTS (which will of course also benefit the phone / broadband business). If all BT CL viewers are just the same people who were already previously watching PL on BTS then there is no way that the CL contract could make sense for BT - as the incremental subs revenue (from new £5 subs + price rises) and advertising revenue could never cover the rights cost. One other specific point - would the rating have been tape-checked - ie is it just the scheduled 12pm to 3.15pm or does it include the extra 20 mins outro over-run to 3.35pm? If the latter the rating would have been over 800k with a 3.15pm finish. |

I think it's about par - a few weeks ago Igloo_Man (I think - apologies if it was someone else) posted the three highest ever BT ratings for Sat 12.45pm games - from memory 773,000 for Chel/Liv would slot in around about 3rd or 4th place.
Can anyone find that post - I've spent ages looking fot it - is it in another thread? If anyone could repost that post it would be helpful - and even better if Igloo_Man has the information maybe expand it to a top 5 or top 10. Here's the top 10 for BT's weekend PL games, prior to Chelsea-Liverpool at the weekend: Liverpool v Arsenal (13/14) - 973,000 Liverpool v Chelsea (14/15) - 940,000 Arsenal v Liverpool (14/15) - 855,000 Man Utd v Swansea (14/15) - 818,000 Tottenham v Man Utd (14/15) - 780,000 * Tottenham v Arsenal (14/15) - 775,000 Chelsea v Arsenal (13/14) - 764,000 Burnley v Man Utd (14/15) - 717,000 Man City v Arsenal (13/14) - 683,000 Sunderland v Liverpool (14/15) - 683,000 (*) Sun 12:00 kick-off So 773,000 for Chelsea-Liverpool would place it seventh in the list. |

It's your lucky day!
So Chel/Liv is a bit lower down the list than I thought - although it's actually very close to 5th - certainly well within the margin of error of BARB ratings. And depending upon the answer re whether the rating went to 3.35pm, it may actually have been around the 4th place rating of 818,000 on a like for like basis. However what really matters is the broader picture - and the thing that immediately stands out from your list is that only 3 of the top 10 were in 13/14 whereas 7 of the top 10 were in 14/15 - implying substantial growth in the 2nd season. Whereas Chel/Liv is only the first game of this season which would have made the top 10 - suggesting no sign of further growth so far this season. Though I would make one caveat to that - seasonal factors - ratings are generally higher in the mid winter months which we obviously haven't yet reached this season. If it's not too much work please keep this list going if there are any new entries as this season progresses - to keep a broad picture I would keep a cut-off at 683,000 - ie so it will expand to a top 11, 12 etc - so a benchmark to watch will be whether more than 7 games this season can exceed 683,000. |

In case anyone wants to see a comparison of 2014-15 with 2013-14, I put together a post on the 2014-15 thread.
I'll try to get round to adding in this seasons figures later this month. |

I'd highly recommend reading TLG86's comparison post (and mlt11's consequent analysis) if you haven't already!
Here's the BT top 10 for BH / midweek rounds: Man City v Liverpool (13/14) - 1,335,000 Man Utd v Tottenham (13/14) - 1,301,000 Tottenham v Chelsea (14/15) - 1,255,000 Arsenal v Man Utd (13/14) - 1,118,000 Liverpool v Tottenham (14/15) - 1,018,000 Liverpool v Everton (13/14) - 909,000 Man Utd v Newcastle (14/15) - 834,000 Tottenham v Man City (13/14) - 767,000 Newcastle v Man Utd (14/15) - 756,000 Arsenal v QPR (14/15) - 742,000 Obviously these are trickier to compare because of the varied timeslots, but it still gives a flavour for how often we may expect BT to break the one million mark on BH / midweek rounds. Incidentally the top three audiences here were all achieved on either Boxing Day or New Year's Day. |

How does this compare to current sky sports viewing figures?... nobody seems to publish these on ds as regularly as BT sport...need to do both on a weekly basis so we know who's' doing what.

How are ratings actually calculated?
On Saturday I watched all the 1st half and then flicked between the football and the racing during the 2nd half. When watching a race I kept half an eye on the match with the app. Tonight I've watched Utd for a few mins and then the goals show for a bit and then back to the match. Does that get counted? |

Prompted by the shirts MC, JUV and others are wearing tonight I suggest that one way to resolve the team identification issue once and for all on the Goals Show is for all the home teams to wear their usual strong / primary colour strip and the away teams to wear wishy-washy pastel coloured strips ... except that wouldn't work for MC at home of course.

Sunday 12:30pm: Everton v Sunderland 668k (7.5%) Sunday 3:30pm: Southampton v Bournemouth 868k (5.9%) MNF 7pm: Spurs v Villa 560k (2.8%) *note the long build-up and post match* Going back to last midweek: Tuesday 7:30pm: Capital One Cup: Sheff Wed v Arsenal 731k (4.0%) Wednesday 7pm: Capital One Cup: Liverpool v Bournemouth 778k (4.0%) So basically Sky are trouncing them. Low key games rating similar to BT's big games. |

656k for the Man Utd Champion's League game last night.
Pretty sure it will be higher for the Arsenal game tonight. |

Just 463k (2.2%) for Bayern v Arsenal. Awful. Less than 423k for Chelsea as it didn't make the ITV Media top 10.
