No but then neither do the Sky figures include Sky Go etc.

Pretty surprising, that. I recorded and watched Bayern v Arsenal before bed, despite not supporting either team. Some great footy on display.

362k for Chelsea v Kiev, 1.8%

2 weeks ago:
Arsenal/Bayern - 777k
Kiev/Chelsea - 170k

Last night:
Bayern/Arsenal - 463k
Chelsea/Kiev - 362k

Change:
Arsenal game - down 314k
Chelsea game - up 192k

Given the way the games went, not surprising that some people who watched the Arsenal game 2 weeks ago would have chosen to watch Chelsea last night - or at least many people may have switched at half time.

However the combined audience across the 2 games was down 122k.

Home games in cl usually rate higher though for British teams?

BT Sport has signed a three year deal to show the annual FIM Speedway World Cup and FIM Speedway Grand Prix series. They replace British Eurosport who have held the contract for the past three seasons.

http://www.speedwaygp.com/news/article/4575/

An interesting ramification of this will be what happens to current world feed commentators Nigel Pearson and Kelvin Tatum. British Eurosport, as did Sky Sports before them, have used this feed for commentary and supplemented it with their own presentation.

Because Pearson and Tatum also cover the domestic Elite League on Sky Sports they needed permission from Sky to continue the FIM coverage when it transferred to British Eurosport. This will certainly not be given if BT Sport also use the world feed. With Pearson also commentating on darts for Sky I expect he would likely stay with them if forced to chose between the two.

There isn't exactly a plethora of speedway commentators out there so it will be interesting to see what happens. I just hope Keith Huewen isn't anywhere near BT's SGP coverage - it's bad enough having to listen to him constantly interrupt and contradict Julian Ryder during Motogp.

Aye, Dave Rowe is the only real alternative to Pearson. Although I thought Dave Goddard did okay when the Elitserian was on Premier Sports, especially given he had no co-commentator and spent a lot of time having to talk over long shots of a stadium between heats.

Maybe a swap for Rowe, with Pearson taking over Eurosport's coverage of the SEC, Best Pairs, and (if they renew it) the Swedish Elitserien. I cannot see Rowe doing both given the animosity between the FIM/BSI and the FIM Europe/OneSport promotions even though I doubt it would bother either broadcaster.

The worst thing BT could do, if they do their own thing, is use a road racing commentator as it is all motorcycle racing as Eurosport did originally with Jack Burnicle.

I suppose the same also applies to using Huewen, though his past experience would have made him a likely choice for BT had the schedules allowed. Him being replaced was of the best things about the switch from Sky to Eurosport.

469k average for Bournemouth v Newcastle which in a way does show progress for BT as you'd expect this type of match to be struggling to scrape over 300k in their first broadcasting season.

Sky weekend ratings for those interested:

Gillette Soccer Saturday (12pm SSNHQ) 527k (4.7%)
Saturday Night Football (5pm SS1) - Stoke v Chelsea 901k (4.9%)
Super Sunday (12:30pm SS1) - Aston Villa v Man City 1.05m (9.5%)
Super Sunday (3:30pm SS1) - Arsenal v Spurs 1.70m (10.6%)

In the daily telegraph reported yesterday is that BT Sport could lose Sky Sports as Ofcom scraps rules. You can see the link to the article in the thread Sky and Satellite Weekly News Thread Week 47 in post number 5 in the Sky Forum area on Digital Spy.

Ofcom have, however, heavily hinted that should Sky withdraw Sky Sports 1 and 2 from BT's platform then they will look into reinstating a similar rule.

I can see both sides of this argument. BT aren't giving Sky what they are requesting from them currently. Sky are not able to retail BT Sport channels (BT Sport is on the satellite platform, obviously, but that's completely different), whilst BT have it legislated that they are able to retail Sky Sports 1 and 2. Should BT allow wholesale access to their channels to Sky, then I'm sure Sky would reciprocate with a commercially-viable deal (as they have done with many other platforms). Of course, BT are currently in a strong position as the sole distributors of their content. They have to weigh up as to whether it is better for them as a company to receive the Sky Sports channels to sell on the BT TV platform or to retain control of BT Sport across all platforms.

At the same time, at the time of the first WMO appeal it is easily argued that Sky were in an extremely dominant position both in terms of content and platform and were arguably abusing their platform dominance when it came to selling on content. Indeed, Sky weren't interested in doing a deal with BT re Sky Sports distribution/wholesaling until BT had the content with which to reciprocate.

Indeed, it is my understanding that BT realised that their TV offering had previously been wholly reliant on commercial relationships with companies in competition with Sky who were unstable (i.e. Setanta) and a regulatory position with regards retailing Sky Sports 1 and 2. Thus they came to the conclusion that they needed to own content themselves in order to 'play the game' more successfully. They certainly have a stronger hand as a result.

Question is, if it comes to it, is it worth BT giving up their position as sole retailer of the BT Sport channels if that is the only way in which they can retain Sky Sports 1 and 2 on their platform. IMHO, no.

Would it be technically possible for Sky to retail Sky Sports on the BT TV platform separately from BT - i.e. a mirror image of the current situation of BT retailing BT Sports on the Sky platform.

I appreciate the underlying nature of the two platforms is very different.

Watford v Man Utd on Saturday got 603k, pretty good figure but again it does show the pulling power of Man Utd.

Not on BT but Burnley v Brighton got 482 for their Sunday Lunchtime Sky kick off, to me I would say again pretty decent figures.

Man City v Liverpool 1101
Tottenham v West Ham 1198

Bit of a hiccup when they went to their pitchside commentator for the Barcelona game just now; presumably thought it was being recorded and started the commentary again.

Rather boring couple of matches really. Last matchday should be more fun - Chelsea need a draw to finish second or a win to finish first, and Arsenal of course need to win by 2 (or score 3+).

Another evening that the Goals Show came into its own.

Really enjoyed the goal show on espn. Via Sky I find the games behind the red button are shown in such poor quality, they are unwatchable. Much worse than Sky's own Red Zone for American Football.

Very average set of figures.

This is my personal opinion only - but it does seem that the CL has lost a lot of spotlight this season by moving to BT. This obviously isnt being helped by the mediocre performance of the English teams but to me anyway, UEFA haven't done themselves any favours in terms of exposure.

It's only the group stages, mind. I know it won't have the same sheen if the English teams don't get through to (/go far into) the knockout stages, but the big 'event' nights have always been the knockout stages. I don't think it's fair to judge too much until we've got a whole season under our belts, tbh.

It's natural, though, that there will be less of a 'buzz' about a competition when it moves from FTA to Pay. Especially as BT has taken the decision to not advertise Showcase at all, so there is very little knowledge of the existence of FTA games.

What about the goals show? Plenty of people, me included, would have been watching that rather than choose between watching the City or United game.
