I can see them being strong but yeah, they won't be going all-out for it thats for sure.
The PL auction was a huge mistake for them in the way they handled it and its left them having to make serious cuts in alot of departments as a result.
I don't think they can afford to take on BT in true 'PL style' for the UCL but they'll make a strong bid im sure

The current slice up and how they've got there may actually suit both companies.
Sky are the home of the premier league
BT the home of European football.

The next contracts that are awarded may just confirm that, will both gamble on reduced bids?

The goals show switches from the champions league to the Europe league this week.

*BTSE

Very good ratings though, I'm expecting the Arsenal game next week to get a peak of 1.5m if BT are lucky.

Yes, it was on Europe apologies!

The match that was on BTS2 got 16,000 for Benfica v Zenit. Figure skewed slightly by long intro, peak was 78,000.

57,000 for Fenerbahce v Lokomotiv in the Europa League.

Considering it was the first leg not a bad figure, considering its set up nicely for the second leg that also should fare better.

Will be very interesting to see the Arsenal figure next week, 900k+?

Not from what I've seen, they don't. I wanted to see if I could watch a Liverpool match in the Europa League that was on BT Sport Showcase a few months ago on my mum's Sky box, by tuning into BT Sport Europe (she's not subscribed to BT Sport as she has no interest in sport), and just got a blue screen. I had to switch to the inferior Freeview picture quality to watch it.

That's a very poor figure for the Gent vs Wolfsburg game - is 10,000 not near the 'not registering at all' figure that S4C have faced criticism for a number of their programmes being watched by a small number?

It could be worse, many programmes register an official rating of zero viewers. In fact on BTS 2 yesterday all programmes between 6am and 4pm officially registered zero. But this is far from unusual across subscription sports channels.

Thanks for this. Just wonder if BT Sports have spread themselves too widely/thinly over 4 channels when maybe 2/3 might do?

In some households, I imagine some viewers won't like football.
So of those watching Tuesday, how many had to let partners have the remote control (Bake Off for example).

Europa League ratings;
BTSE; 6pm Fiorentina v Tottenham 268,000
8pm; Augsborg v Liverpool 643,000

BTS2; 6pm Midtjylland v Man Utd 398,000 (peak of 708,000)

BTS1; Goals Show 21,000

BTS Showcase; 6pm Borussia Dortmund v Porto 40,000
8pm Valencia v Rapid Vienna 73,000

As a result the live matches were 3 of the top 6 most watched pay TV programmes last night. For completeness, the other three were all episodes of The Simpsons on Sky1!

So individually some of the figures may not look all that impressive but collectively it means over 700,000 people were watching BT Sport between 6-8pm, and again between 8-10pm.

Interesting and somewhat encouraging figures for BT. I wonder did Gary Neville factor attract viewers to Valencia game?

It's why I went for it. I suspect the gluttony of early goals had a few more switch over too, particularly as the rest of the 8.05 KOs were a bit quieter.

The one hour EUROPA League highlights show was abysmal. It was as though the whole programme was meant to be just a vehicle for the 'pundits' to listen to the sound if thier own voices on tv. The 'blink' and you might miss it actual footage of the matches were like an after thought - treated also as though they were an annoying intrusion on the cosy chat show. Disgusted.

Considering it was the first knock out stage of the Europa league and both Liverpool and Man Utd up against far lesser teams those don't look to bad a figure, both should be well up on the second leg and easily much more wanting to watch and see if Man Utd can survive a shock exit.

Just goes to show the pulling power of these 2 teams.

What happens next week if Liverpool's game goes to Extra time, BT only have two channels showing matches on satellite, do Spurs or Man Utd get dropped, assume it would be Spurs until the Liverpool game is over but if it went to penalties that could mean the whole of the first half not being aired.

It seems as though BT are looking to launch their own Soccer Saturday-type show if the latest Fan Forum survey is anything to go by, as several of the questions asked what the most important aspects of a Saturday scores show are (quality of the presenter, pundits and reporters, clear display of the scores, the need to be entertaining etc), how well Soccer Saturday fulfils these aspects and how a BT show could improve on these.

There were also questions about what people watch to follow football on a Saturday and what prevents them from doing so (family, work commitments, non-sports programming or other sports programming), whether people were aware of BT having the 5.30 match from next season and whether they were more likely to watch it than the 12.30 match, and what improvements BT could make to its Premier League coverage for next season.

AFAIK, the next game would kick off on the red button and be joined in progress!

Did this one myself a little earlier too!
It will take something rather special from BT to get even close to SS as its so established and people love the hell out of it.

BT are probably thinking of ideas of how to fill the 3-5pm slot other than rugby next season and get a lead in for football. A scores show is an obvious idea, they'd have to work very hard to move people from Soccer Saturday and Final Score, is there room for another one?

Some sort of football based show will clearly air, I wonder what they'll do with Fletch & Sav?

The 530 means end of fletch and sav on 606 you'd have thought
